The White House website (whitehouse.gov) runs on WordPress. The site presents the content on the latest bills, legislation, statements, and more.

Why haven't they setup #ActivityPub yet?

For that matter, have any of these #WordPress powered sites setup AP yet? #Fediverse

I'm a big proponent of RSS feeds. Even run my own #FreshRSS RSS aggregator and reader & have custom #Calibre recipes for archiving #rss for pdf reading.

Mainly talking about websites could easily enter the #Fediverse social media field by turning on the #ActivityPub plugin on their existing #WordPress #blog setups.

Still, many people are letting a great resource pass by them by not utilizing RSS feeds that exist. Nice to see some RSS bridges like these.

@paul a great place to start a campaign to get more media organizations to enable ActivityPub would be local public radio stations running WordPress like https://www.cpr.org/. While there are some individuals from Colorado Public Radio active on Mastodon like @RyeBread, it would be great to be able to follow CPR here along with the news I get from @NPR and @coloradosun.

@paul Even NASA is on WordPress right now.

@darnell

There are many major sites using WordPress. I really hope PR is reaching out.

Even if they turn comments off, it would be great to follow them directly.

@paul I will contact the tech support behind the & to see if they will consider joining the .

Then again, I wonder if their setup would work with the plugin‽ Or if the plugin has to go through a security audit & be approved before being activated‽

Well, I can always refer them to @pfefferle or @evan (those two are super busy nowadays 😅) if they run into any issues or have questions.

I would expect this to most certainly being the case. Esp. the White House site may be one that is constantly under attack, and have an IT team that is ultra-conservative and wary for any new feature they add. I would be surprised if they added the AP plugin in such early stage of development still. But, who knows..

@paul I think the answer can be found here. I don't have exact numbers, but I'm quite sure that ActivityPub user numbers in total wouldn't make this graph.

@jon

I remember reading not long ago it was like 15 million users across 50K different nodes.

@paul yeah, that's just such a tiny number (relatively). Certainly, there are so many benefits to owning your own setup, but I can certainly see why the answer is no.

@jon I don't see why they don't do the bare minimum of letting their WordPress posts be discoverable on the Fediverse, even if they turn off activitypub interactions within their current setup simply so people can follow, discover and share their articles and posts from their federated timelines. They pretty much just have to setup and activate a WordPress owned extension.

@paul just curious. Have people asked for this? It just might not be something even on their radar.

@jon some name brand sites are starting. I think it won't be long until more do. It's fairly recent WordPress feature and I'm sure they are starting to promote the feature more to major brand users.

@jon @paul one nice thing about Threads implementing ActivityPub is that the number of people that can be reached changes.

oligneisti,

The thing is that adding to is extremely simple. It isn't a new account on a social-network. It is adding value to what you already have. It is so much easier than making your site connect to with the various plugins and tools.
