8 Apr 1579: Thomas Cottam of #Lancashire enters the #Jesuit novitiate at Sant' Andrea #Rome#otd
Arrested on landing at #Dover June 1580, tortured in Marshalsea & Tower of #London, executed 30 May 1582 having refused last-minute pardon if accepted Supremacy of Elizabeth I (NPG)
Meanwhile in #Lancashire, if we thought we were having trouble getting a #doctors appointment right now, given over half of the county's GP practices are worried they may have to close (due to budgetary problems) in the next two years.... things may be about to get a lot worse.
The majority party will be that of the abstainers....
Can you imagine a dream scenario where he wins the election ... and then it starts u turning on all the pledges he's dropped since stitching his predecessor up... lie after lie after...
Unfortunately that will never be... and we are left just wit one big grey (no red no blue but the colour of doom) party.... put in place to please its donors
@lucazampedri@ChrisMayLA6 Even if he did suddenly morph into something even vaguely resembling a Labour MP, he'd never get any spending plan past the Lego chancellor. I hope he gets beaten by the British Palestinian lady standing against him in his constituency.
This story from #Lancashire (via the BBC) emphasises why potholes are a problem & need dealing with... but this needs to be done with money not robbed from #publictransport investment.... cycling & trains should complement each other not compete from cash!
@ChrisMayLA6 I don't know if you saw this statement on potholes from Mark Harper yesterday. Note the timeline of the "investment"
""Transport Secretary Mark Harper yesterday unveiled how £8.3 billion will be spent resurfacing more than 5,000 miles of local roads over next 11 years" #UKPolitics
@cloudguy sounds like you have a problem. Maybe get offline for a bit and get some fresh air.
Speaking of which, increasing cycling will give us fresh air. You hiding in your ICE or E - car won't. It will also help us tackle climate change quickly enough to avoid the worst effects.
Full disclaimer, I'm writing this from a cafe stop in the middle of a cycle ride in the middle of a glorious autumn day.
