Inspired by Stephen Hawking, to test if time travel is possible, I threw a party for time travelers but sent out the invitations afterward to see if anyone came.
Nobody came, but I don't know if it’s because time travel doesn't exist or everyone hates me.
When I was in high school, I had a fake ska band and I'd put up flyers for shows AFTER they had allegedly taken place so people would always think they'd JUST missed us.
I also worked in a record store at the time, so I made a card for the fake band and kept it in the CD bins so it looked like our CD was always sold out.

@Alice I mean I heard they were good. I’m struggling to remember any of their songs now that you mention it. I’m pretty sure there were trombones and off-beat rhythm guitars, but I might have imagined that.
The long list at the bottom was a list of all of the names of my friends who I recruited for my fake ska band so it would look ridiculously large, even more large than most ska bands in the '90s.
Fake bands are th4 best. In the late 70s, we pretty much just hung out in clubs listening to bands. Some of our friends were musicians. an other friend and I decided to have a fake band called "the thrifty workers." Some people hated us because we were posers, some liked us, for what reason I don't know. a few years later, we had work jackets embroidered with our name. It's kind of pitiful, but we still wear them to this day.
When I was in college in the early 90s, I encountered flyers for a budding right-wing grievance paper that called itself "The Precept" (think "do you feel persecuted for being right wing on campus?")
So I used my editor-of-the-highschool-paper digital layout skills and made identically-formatted counter-flyers for "The Pre-crypt", a cannibalism-curious paper that asked "do you feel persecuted for exploring alternative protein sources?"
@Alice When I was living in a small town of 7000 people, two of my coworkers and I invented a fake band we were in, called Heinous Peinous, and we would tell communal lies to anyone in town about what kind of music we played, how hard we rocked. Shame you missed us, we'd say.
Later in the same town, I started a band with two other coworkers called Cxck Wxzards, and we really did play, very loud, in one of our basements, so it would echo really loud, and people would gather around the house.
