Mój prywatny demon
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Przywrócony do służby detektyw Ezra prowadzi najważniejsze śledztwo w historii tutejszej policji. I ma niewiele czasu, żeby rozwiązać zagadkę tajemniczych śmierci.
To jednak nie jedyna sprawa, jaką prowadzi. Głos, który coraz częściej słyszy w głowie, wikła detektywa w kolejną zagadkę. Ezra musi rozwiązać obie sprawy, inaczej znajdzie się w pułapce. Sprawy, jakich świat nie widział.
I musi się spieszyć. #fantastyka#scifi#book#ebook#kindle#epub#mobi#ksiazka#ksiażki@ksiazki
The post-apocalyptic pictures of the Statue of Liberty or the Capitol sticking up out of water / ice / desert sand reveal a poor understanding of how deserted buildings collapse.
One of the reasons I like Star Trek and I thoroughly approve of the different eras (yes, even backward!) of the universe is that I feel Sci Fi is often best when it's about the limits of technology rather than overwhelming, anything-is-possible stuff.
Data is most interesting when he's unique, when a brain as perfect as his shouldn't be possible. When it's easy to make humanoid robots...they're not very cool (cough cough)
@MisuseCase was the temporal cold war bullshit his idea? If so, probably true. Unbelievable they put that shit in the show just for a chance of a crossover they never DID..plus it's scifi...there's so many excuses they could do a crossover without prior explanation.
What I enjoyed about this episode is that you got to see how weak the Empire had become based upon their projections of strength.
Watching a former general who fell out of grace in the eyes of the Empire (but not of the people), attempt to negotiate with powerful people was striking, especially his attitude towards the leader who had caused him so much suffering.
However what shocked me was the ending of the episode which surprisingly displayed some...humanity (that is the only hint you get!
Tell Me an Ending by Jo Harkin was about a near future where you can have a memory erased. It's very character-driven and asks a lot of questions about morality, eg should you do the wrong thing for the right reason? what is our responsibility when people are hurting? should we give people what they want or what they need? The characters we follow are from all over and I ended up really caring about them. If you like #scifi that is very much about the people, you may also want to read this!
@baconandcoconut Pressure is on! Not in a bad way... I need more reasons to read!
Last good scifi book I read (not saying too much, due to the allusion above about not reading enough) was Klara and the Sun, which kinda devastated me, but also left me feeling fascinated and a little exhilarated.
Great thematically, but really what stood out most was the intricate characters, so I'm sure I'll enjoy your rec.

'O, it is excellent To have a giant's strenght, but it is tyrannous to use it like a giant.'
DeepLab5 was 150 feet down; Dr. Solheim was there, taking credit for her work. She’d forgive that, but not his plans to use it. Sara's bio-net schooled and controlled barnacles, would make seasteading practical, but Solheim would turn it to war for profit. Today she'd be a tyrant, “the barnacles will cover the lab in minutes with glue six times stronger than any humans had ever created; Solheim’s tomb.”

The Tailface fishes, a new species designed by Mashiro-Saber Corp.'s bionegineering labs to eat the microplastics are no the most strange thing here. No. That honor would be to Cap. Jean Mashiro, whose body is artificial from the neck downwards. She's been living underwater for the last 3 years. That big fish wired to her is her guide-fish. Not that she need it. It's just protocol. She's known as The Queen of the Oceans. And she's a warrior queen… #WritingPrompt
—What always happen when the engineering class get as their final test the design of a weapon of reduced mass destruction. I don't know why the government still do that. They must pay for the damages, their public image is almost destroyed and the damn weapon is never used in actual combat. Why the hell do they start a forever war if the don't use the weapons they ask for and then they use it in our own country?
City on fire.
City on fire.
No fire trucks were responding. No sirens echoed through the streets, nor flashing lights filled the night with red and blue and white—only the blood orange of the city on fire. Madness had taken hold of Madre Pueda. Swarms of demons, black and blood-eyed beasts with human hands and human faces stampeded through the city, killing any living thing. Tearing men, dogs, women, children into bloody shreds and feeding on them.
