The people of England have spoken, and with a powerful and undeniable voice we have said:

Fuck off Tories.

Will these local election results the UK parliamentary election give any chance for setting in a long-term shift to democracy by replacing (FPTP) by either a two-round [1] (like in e.g. France, Poland), ranked method [2] (like in e.g. Australia) or rated method [3]?

The Labor and LibDem parties would have to accept a shift to coalitions instead of winner-take-all.

:flag_uk_fb: Hello Britain! :flag_uk_fb:

Your yearly reminder that there are more than two political parties in the UK and despite the voting system being first-past-the-post, which favours the Reds and the Blues, you can + should vote for whoever you like. :face_sunglasses_fb:

I have always voted Green in the UK and if you like the sound of their policies, then you should consider it too. :tongue_wink_fb:

Here is a good video which explains why the don't fair so well under a first-past-the-post system, which is highly related to the two points above:

“A revolution in the way Britain does politics has begun in Devon. Tory MPs should be afraid”

by George Monbiot in the Guardian @TheGuardian_uk

“This is what democracy looks like: hundreds of people queueing in the rain, seeking to take back control of a political system that treats voters like an afterthought. Last weekend, a remarkable democratic experiment reached its first conclusion. A process that began here in South Devon and is now spreading to other constituencies has allowed voters to reclaim the initiative from centralised and self-interested political parties. It directly confronts our unfair electoral system.”

I remember the 2000 Election. There were enough votes for Ralph Nader to hand the election to George W. Bush.

I remember the 2016 Election. There were enough votes for Jill Stein to hand the election to Donald Trump.

In 2024 the Green Party is running Cornell West. Let’s not repeat this history, friends

Your vote is not a marriage. You’re not choosing a life partner. It’s a chess move for what’s best for the country and the world.

johngbell95,

@georgetakei it’s the design of the system. What is needed is electoral reform with either multiple rounds until there are just 2 remaining, or a preference voting system so that third candidate votes are allocated to a preferred alternative

I really admire but am disappointed that she's chosen to run for in , Britain's only constituency with a MP where she's likely to spilt the progressive vote and ensure we get a Tory instead
