Ford Motor Co. has filed for a patent on technology that could remotely shut down your radio or air conditioning, lock you out of your vehicle, or prompt it to ceaselessly beep if you miss car payments. Ford said it has no plans to use the technology, contained in just one of the many patents filed by the auto-making giant....
If You’ve Got a New Car, It’s a Data Privacy Nightmare
"Bad news: your car is a spy. If your vehicle was made in the last few years, you’re probably driving around in a data-harvesting machine that may collect personal information as sensitive as your race, weight, and sexual activity. Volkswagen’s cars reportedly know if you’re fastening your seatbelt and how hard you hit the brakes.
That’s according to new findings from Mozilla’s *Privacy Not Included project. The #nonprofit found that every major car brand fails to adhere to the most basic privacy and security standards in new internet-connected models, and all 25 of the brands Mozilla examined flunked the organization’s test. #Mozilla found brands including #BMW, #Ford, #Toyota, #Tesla, and #Subaru collect #data about drivers including race, facial expressions, weight, health information, and where you drive. Some of the cars tested collected data you wouldn’t expect your car to know about, including details about sexual activity, race, and immigration status, according to Mozilla." https://gizmodo.com/mozilla-new-cars-data-privacy-report-1850805416
The ex- #Ford CEO says that there are more accidents because #EV brakes are better, and people behind them in #ICE cars crash into them - that's just bad driving. You should always leave enough room behind the car in front to stop safely.
Also, he says about households having 2 cars - one EV and one ICE getting used to EVs with reversing cameras and then swapping back to the ICE which doesn't.
That has nothing to do with how the car is powered. Loads of ICE cars have reversing cameras or "gadgets" - where's he been for the last 5 or so years?
The statistics might be right, but these are poor arguments.
WASHINGTON, Sept 15 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday said "no one wants a strike" but that car companies have enjoyed record profits in recent years without sharing them fairly with workers, hours after the United Auto Workers began strikes at Detroit's three biggest automakers.
It was only May 23 that this deal was announced and less than a year later ford users have access to teslas supercharger network
The NACS standard is going to rapidly take over in CONUSA and this is a great thing for consumers, and wont be a problem for tesla owners, I'll follow up with why
Every EV maker looked at the oh-so-sweet margins Tesla had, and all of them then decided to not only create "premium" EVs. but also price them with Tesla-like margins.
They forgot a simple thing: most people don't buy luxury cars.
They purchase vehicles that fit their wallets.
Now, the entire EV field is having a reset.
Worse even, offshore manufacturers with their lower production costs are at the door.
#Scandal in #Ontario. Surprising literally no one, @OntarioAuditor concludes that a high level #Ford staffer gave preferential treatment to certain developers in the #Greenbelt land grab. What IS shocking is that just 2 developers stand to gain $8.3 billion and own 92% of the land involved. These 2 pirates are robbing Ontarians of 1000 acres of #wetlands and #woodlands. #duffinsrougeagpreserve#onpoli
#Ford is recalling nearly 1.9 million Ford Explorer SUVs in the U.S. because of loose clips that could detach, allowing the windshield trim panels to fly off while the vehicle is traveling at highway speeds.
Today in Labor History March 7, 1932: Over 3,000 people, led by the United Auto Workers, marched on the main Ford plant in Dearborn, Michigan. Workers on the Ford Hunger March were demanding that laid off colleagues be rehired. They also demanded a slow-down of the assembly lines and an end to the evictions of unemployed workers from their homes. Marchers carried banners saying "Give Us Work," "We Want Bread Not Crumbs," and "Tax the Rich and Feed the Poor." During the protests, police opened fire with machine guns, killing 4 and injuring 60. A fifth worker died later from his wounds. The Unemployed Council (part of the Communist Party) also supported the march.
#JohnNaughton asks, in The #Guardian, if #Tesla is doing to the car industry what #Apple did to #Nokia. There are several errors in the article (the Tesla Roadster was based on a #Lotus#Elise, not Elite, and the #Toyota#bZ4x is not cheaper than a Tesla. Which is precisely the problem traditional car manufacturers are facing. They can’t build #EVs cheap enough. Even worse, some (like #Ford and @VWGroup) are actually cutting back investment!
#UAW set to widen #strike barring progress in contract talks
The #UnitedAutoWorkers#union said it will broaden its strike at noon Fri unless there is last-min progress in contract talks w/ #Detroit’s #BigThree#automakers.
Talks w/ #GeneralMotors, #Ford & #Stellantis continued this week, but enough disagreement remained on Thurs that the union was preparing to walk out of more factories or warehouses.
