Do you know of any good sources on the history of the mining concerns of #Venice in the Renaissance and Early Modern periods, in particular how they acquired the rare minerals for their famous glass production?
It's okay if the sources are in #Italian - I am trying to learn the language.
Yesterday I had the first session of my " #Italian for Beginners" course. The teacher recommended that we should listen to Italian songs, and mentioned Zucchero Fornaciari in particular.
Anno zero - Guerra nello spazio (Cosmos: War of the Planets) was released 46 years ago today.
"A strange signal arrives on the Earth disturbing all communications, while a UFO appears above the Antarctic sea. Captain Alex Hamilton is sent with his spaceship and crew to the space outside the Solar System to find the origin of that signal."
Oh boy, it surely wasn't Star Wars. 😅 #scifi#italian#movie#1977
OMG this is so delicious!! I accidentally made it vegan by using white wine instead of chicken stock and it does not need parmigiana. #cooking#vegetables#italian#vegan
Question: Is there any app or website where you can enter #Italian words and then it pronounces the word for you?
I'm still early in my efforts to learn the language, and I feel I should put in some efforts to get this part right so that I don't pick up any bad habits.
My decision to try and learn #Italian as a third language (after German and English) was based on two things:
I want to travel outside of Germany again, and to my mind it's best if you understand the local language. However, since I want to avoid flying for environmental reasons, I preferred a nearby country.
Furthermore, my main hobby obsession is German #folklore - and German folklore has a large number of folk tales about #Venice and Venetians that read like drug-induced fever dreams. The opportunity to compare the myth to the real thing is too good to resist!
Two wonderful dogs to match the background 🤗🐕🐕. Enjoying a refreshing dip in the water! The background is a rocky cliff on the coast called Scala dei Turchi (Staircase of the Turks) in Realmonte, Sicily, Italy.
In my quest to learn #Italian , I feel I should not overlook the culinary aspects. Thus, I am looking for recommendations for Italian-language cookbooks. They should fulfill the following criteria:
They should be currently in print, to increase the chances that I can get them here in Germany.
The recipes should not too many region-specific ingredients, since getting these in Germany could likewise be a problem.
Finally, I am cooking first and foremost for my own, so recipes suitable for a single-person household would be best.
This afternoon while running errands we hit this fairly new #Italian market and deli in #Matthews called Nonna Maria's. I got a sandwich with prosciutto di parma, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and balsamic vinegar. Mrs. F. got one with roast beef and Swiss. 😋 Lotsa good stuff here. Recommended! #Charlotte#NC
As I start working through Italo Calvino's "Fiabe italiane" ("Italian Folktales"), I think it might be worth exploring the parallels between German and #Italian#folklore .
In the first story, "Giovannin senza paura" ("Fearless Giovannino"), the body parts of a ghost fall down a chimney and reassemble themselves before a living witness. The exact same thing happens in "Geister - Mahl" ("The Ghosts' Meal"), collected in the Brothers Grimm's "Deutsche Sagen" ("German Legends") - but that tale is set in far-off Flensburg, in the northernmost region of Germany.
It will be interesting to see what other parallels I will detect.
