"ohio" returned to neil young's setlist yesterday at #JazzFest (the solo electric heavy af version), presumably because it was the anniversary of when government representatives slaughtered peaceful protestors (& bystanders) at #KentState, but really hope he keeps playing it this tour. seems... topical. https://sugarmtn.org/sm_show.php?show=202405040
@Twisted666 Take it from MY Generation (vamping The Who). There's more of us than there are of them. #KentState May 1970. A lesser known pic. Resistance is never futile. @RustyBertrand
with all the reminders that today is the 54th anniversary of the #KentState#massacre, and what with the Biden approved state violence unleashed on students protesting #genocide; now is as good a time to remember:
STUDENTS AND THE UNEMPLOYED ARE PART OF THE WORKING CLASSES
i've always felt we need a #labor#union for the unemployed: students, stay-at-home parents and caregivers (married and otherwise) all fall in that category but aren't counted.
Last year I posted a link to an article on Alan Canfora's website regarding Ohio National Guard's order to fire on students at Kent State. This year, I can't use that link because the website is gone. That makes me very sad. Alan Canfora was the student shot in the wrist at the Kent State protest on May 4, 1970.
@3dogcouch When this happened one of my brothers, a Kent State freshman, was on the campus, while another brother, a US Marine, was in the jungles of Vietnam. I was far away from both of them. There was nothing I could do. My heart was shattered, anxiety through the roof.
Recently, seeing police response to protests, my thoughts have turned to that horrific day.
It's nearly May 4th again. Kent State will commemorate the 54th anniversary of the massacre next week. #NeverAgain #KentState
To all the brave university students protesting the ongoing genocide in Gaza, I see you, I hear you, and I applaud your resolve. Also, please protect yourselves.
It is my duty now for the future to point out that the band DEVO formed in the early 1970s "in response to the failed promise of utopian progress peddled by post-WWII politicians and consumer culture" and amid the turmoil surrounding Vietnam war protests in the US.
The core members of DEVO were friends with two of the four students who were shot by gas-masked National Guardsman at the May 4, 1970, Vietnam war protest on the campus of Kent State University in Ohio. Three founding members of the band attended Kent State at that time.
Gerald Casale (co-founder, co-lead vocalist and bass player) said that was "the most DEVO day of his life." The theory that humankind is evolving in reverse. That was the first evidence that hit him square in the gut and the heart and the mind that this was true.
"In the next two years, I realized that the system was rotten to the core. That everything I believed was an illusion."
Columbia University: Ilhan Omar's daughter suspended and 108 arrested for Gaza protest
In a statement sent to faculty on Thursday, Columbia University president Dr Nemat Shafik said she had hoped her decision to authorise the New York Police Department to clear the encampment would "never be necessary".
This is what happened in the late 60s and early 70s when we protested the VN war.
Its only a matter of time before some cop or NG shoots a student. #KentState
I don’t understand how Kyle Rittenhouse can walk onto a college campus. Where I went to school, with a bunch of hippies, he would have needed the riot squad to escort him onto campus or be beaten to death and left for the otters. As a student I would have gladly copped and assault charge to keep that shitbag off campus. Besides, you can always claim defense — he’s a known mass shooter.
Controversy? Mere controversy? This makes me angrier than many of the things happening right now. Lividly angry. The little fuckwad. And Turning Point USA can stick a gun barrel up its collective ass.

To a person who was shot, then lived his life fighting for justice, Alan Michael Canfora. I was lucky enough to speak to him about everything. He died in December 2020. He found the proof of the order to fire.
"Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio."
#OTD in 1970, #KentState students Jeffery Glenn Miller (20), Allison B. Krause (19), William Knox Schroeder (19) and Sandra Lee Schener (20) were killed by the Ohio National Guard.
Three years ago I wrote about the 50th anniversary of the Kent State massacre and my own experience of the May 4 Walking Tour on the Kent State University campus.
Remember their names:
Allison Krause
Jeffrey Miller
Sandra Scheuer
William Schroeder
Lest we forget, while celebrating #MayThe4thBeWithYou day that #MayThe4th is also the day that Nixon's Nazi's (Ohio National Guard) stormed the #KentState campus and killed students, some of which were just walking between classes. 05/04/1970
Today is the anniversary of the Kent State shootings, or more appropriately the "May 4th Massacre". In the wake of recent events and our consideration of gun control laws I think this day deserves a great deal of reflection. Four Americans were murdered, and nine more wounded, by our own national guard simply for participating in an anti-war demonstration. If we want to consider limiting access to guns on american soil lets start with our own national guard and police, not our citizens. The last thing I want to see is an unarmed populace needing to deal with a well-armed police and military force. Lets focus on securing the rights of the citizen, not giving them up
