This website is an incredible examination of the forces on a bicycle. I knew a lot of this from a long history with my wheeled horses but anyone of any level of understanding will be immediately drawn in by the wonderful animated demos.
My bike now has spokes made out of strings. It’s actually a material called Dyneema which is polyethylene. It’s said to have 15x the strength to weight ratio of steel spokes and floats on water. My wheels lost over 200 grams in weight. But what’s bigger is these spokes dampen chatter on the trail. It feels like I’m riding with half the air in my tires, but without being slowed down.
I’ve done 2 rides on them so far and I’m very impressed by the ride quality improvements they have.
Back on the bike after a needing a few days to recover after last week’s efforts. Still a little tender but couldn’t resist a quick out and back/up and down. #mtb#cycling#highlands
I was just thinking: is mountain biking the "extreme" / action sport most likely to survive after The Collapse™?
Cities will be too dirty for skateboarding and rollerblading, snowboarding and skiing require both snow and access to high altitudes. Maybe BMX will also have a chance in rubble filled cities?
Am i the only person wondering about these things?
He's only 19, he's from Christchurch and Matt Fairbrother is a quiet kiwi hero. Two years ago he quit school, flew to Europe and competed in the enduro mountain biking world circuit. Self-funded.
He had no money to fly between events, so he biked between countries instead. The lad's an absolute machine.
Oh... and he just won the NZ MTB Rally too. Mike White with a great profile.
Infrequently used singletrack motocross/mtb trail halfway up Eagle Mt, connecting to other even less frequently used, but magical trails. Only becomes accessible in April, but worth it, as it hugs the mountain side for a few km that feel endless (as good singletrack does). #mtb#hiking#nature#singletrack#trails#pnw
#cycling loop done! I never rode my #MTB up this particular forest road to the #mountain and maybe I now know why: Some part of it is really steep - or I'm just unfit. But woah did I drive on my personal limit for quite a while!!
BUT: I did it! And it feels awesome!
The 10min downhill was a lot of fun, for sure! But next time I'll try the other side of the mountain again to drive up.
The trail markers of MTB trails showcase the poetry of creation. Made by volunteers, when you ride these at the end your legs, lungs, and soul agree: 'apt'. Let's do that one more time... #biking#mtb#pnw#westwoodplateau#nature#hiking

Today i did the 18th #Bike2Work ride.
It was 19°C and cloudy, no wind at all. Very wet since it stopped raining an hour before the ride. I was very lucky for once 😁 I did track C-K (22.5km, 280m ascend).
After these 10 days of stop (well i trained anyway, but not commuted) i felt in great condition. Plus, every time it's wet or raining it's like i have a boost or something...so i destroyed the last year PR by 5 minutes! 😲
Wojcieszów. Single tracki Dłużek oraz Okole. Wspaniały przelot pomiędzy nimi. Dłużek? Nuda. Choć dwie gleby zaliczyłem. Okole? W to mi graj. Były momenty. Urokliwy i najciekawszy technicznie. Utyrałem się jak jasna cholera.
Przelot?
Pozbierałem i pokręciłem dalej, ciesząc oczy soczystą zielenią. #magiczylas#trail#mtb
Years ago, I struggled through a challenging 40km mountain bike loop that left me exhausted and discouraged. This time, I revisited the same route with better preparation, fitness, and a new bike. The result was a surprising and rewarding experience. Check out the video to see how it went!
@ai6yr The view from MTB practice yesterday. We went down into Pt. Mugu to get under the clouds and out of the drizzle. Mostly worked. More flies than rain hitting my glasses down there. #BikeTooter#MTB
