Since a lot of people seemed to enjoy the video where I talked about the #OpenSource software I use, here is a video with all the stuff I run on my #NAS, and the things that I still need to set up on it:
My latest trigger is that look people get when you tell them you don't use #facebook or threads... and you use forums and the #fediverse... and you don't use #spotify or #netflix... you have a #nas with content... or you don't have #amazon prime, you shop at smaller shops... you can see them judging you like, "oh your one of those insufferable types."
How did we people get this way? they roll their eyes when you don't worship the corporations and trust them with your data... they just use streaming services and own nothing and get annoyed when you say, "I don't have spotify." ... and they huff at you if you don't support the biggest mega-corporations. This is manufactured consent on a level I don't even think Noam could have predicted (he did though).
Conservative activists launched a public campaign to enact new model legislation called the "General Education Act".
Behind this bland name is a proposal for the most radical assault on faculty and academic freedom in American history.
If the model legislation were to be enacted, lawmakers would force public colleges to adopt a uniform general education curriculum devoted to conservative values, give a new dean near-total power to hire all faculty to teach these classes and then require the firing of many existing faculty members in the humanities and social sciences, including tenured professors.
The GEA’s extreme ideas are not the babblings of some obscure blogger. They are a joint proposal from three leading conservative groups
—the Ethics and Public Policy Center,
—the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal, and
—the National Association of Scholars.
One lead author, 😱Stanley Kurtz😱, has an extensive track record of writing legislation aimed at suppressing liberal ideas in education.
His 2021 "Partisanship Out of Civics Act" has been copied by state legislators seeking to ban critical race theory.
👍 https://www.openmediavault.org
This time a short one, I'm presenting my small weekend project, a NAS running ZFS on a Raspberry Pi Zero. The idea was to have a RAID1 mirror using two USB drives, but that did not turn out so well. But hey, it's the journey that matters. And it's running ZFS so it's serious stuff.
I tried to host a #GitLab on my #NAS yesterday. It was nice to see it working, but not so nice to see how it eats all available RAM. Then I discovered @gitea )
I'm just now backing up #HomeAssistant and running the updates in preparation for moving its host #RPi 4B power source.
It feels like one of those sliding puzzle things where I'm doing this so I can then move an old laptop now running w/ #PuppyLinux, so I can then re-install my older RPi 1B which now boots from an old #NAS harddrive, so I can re-install #Mosquitto, so I can get my #MQTT msgs propagating again, so I can see #Mastodon toots of door open/close events.
Liebe Schwarmintelligenz.
Bottled water is up to a hundred times worse than previously thought when it comes to the number of tiny plastic bits it contains, a new study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences said…
Finished rebuilding my #NAS today. Replaced a 3rd generation core i5 with a 6th generation core i5 that came from my spouse’s old gaming computer. Trickle down hardware.
This time I decided to pass on TrueNAS and loaded up ubuntu server with cockpit and portainer installed. I, thankfully, didn’t have to rebuild the raid, I managed to just export it from TrueNAS core and then imported it on the new system.
Note, thats not a mini-itx motherboard. This case is just that fucking big.
Was nimmt man denn heutzutage?
