Since we're starting to see more new users come over from Twitter/X due to the shenanigans happening, I thought I'd share this post with some tips and tricks for new Mastodon users.
Here's a (mildly outdated, but still useful) spreadsheet of most known Mastodon apps for mobile with a very comprehensive list of features and functionality, from free to paid, for Android and iOS!

However, there are still a LOT of things about it which should be concerning to users, and which should cause them to be much more cautious when selecting their first instance or moving to another.
Below are the three which prevent me from fully buying in to this being the "end game" of social media.
Something I highly recommend to new users.
PLEASE, fill out your profile. Add some details, a picture, hobbies, tags or anything. Write an introduction.
I guarantee you'll find other users will be far more likely to interact with you if you do.
As you've probably heard, no algorithms here, so you should follow accounts with interests aligned with yours. One of the best ways is by following topical #CuratedAccounts.

For #NewUsers to the #fediverse, your server admin does this work out of their own pocket. If you like it here, you may at some point consider giving a tip for their service to help offset some costs.
While this isn't a complete list, I feel it's a great place to get started and what can help you find good content and to help others find you and what you are interested in.
It started with the Twitter lockout. 10,000 new users per hour. A QUARTER MILLION people migrated to Mastodon in one day. The servers struggled. Remarkably, admins all over the world built up capacity in real time. New users were patient. The system held.
It's running better now. There will be more hard days ahead, but people powered social media has arrived.
