I'm really not sure if I should fully commit to Lemmy/KBin. I have accounts on both platforms but I just don't feel as connected to them. I think it's because I've been using Reddit so much in my life that I've gotten used to the UI and communities.
My current plan is just to wait it out until one reddit-alternative platform becomes the overwhelming popular platform. Then I'll probably start using that one.
Infinity will put the App behind a Paywall beginning at 1st July due Reddit's Api pricing. This means you will no longer be able to use the app for free (older versions included)
What do most TikTok users and Reddit users have in common? They still have understand anything about how to check Reddit, TikTok (and other socials) properly, even without need to see a single ad. But obviously they react like if the end of Apollo is equivalent to the end of the world.
You know #reddit#redditblackout#redditMigration#redditapi#RedditStrike this Spez guy is not so bad. Why not make a bot same as gandalfbot from r/lotrmemes. It's not like he will be ashamed of his words? His quotes like "The blackouts are not representative of the greater Reddit community" and "My favorite analogy for Reddit is that of a city" "Hi Snoos" "We have not seen any significant revenue impact so far and we will continue to monitor." Apollo threatened us, said they’ll “make it easy"
Okey dokey. So, I'm looking at viable #RedditAlternatives to replace what #Reddit was providing for me* & I'm currently at the initial information overload stage.
My current understanding is that Lemmy is associated with tankies & best avoided, but it's also the most developed option presently.
Kbin seems to me to be more of an upcoming star, but still lacks important features & an app.
In response to threats to forcibly remove moderators if subreddits don’t reopen, /r/pics polled it’s users and has chosen to reopen after changing its rules to allow only sexy pics of John Oliver.
According to users on #lemmy#reddit is now restoring users deleted and edited comments. We expected this but what I didn't expect was to find an FAQ from Reddit stating that they cannot ever restore deleted comments.

I wasn’t an active redditor, only posted twice in six years that I know of, so this isn’t anything special. But just in the name of simplification and spring cleaning I logged into my two accounts I apparently had and deleted them due to “API changes”. Cya Reddit! Also, long live #ActivityPub, the #OpenWeb and the #Fediverse #mastodon #redditapi#redditmigration#kbin
Reddit's CEO is now comparing the people who've done the most to make the site popular to "landed gentry" -- demonstrating that he's both over-the-top arrogant and ignorant.
He's also threatening to change the rules of the site to make it easier to remove moderators. Yes, that'll definitely encourage more people to build communities there.
I’m a long-time #Reddit user with the karma to prove it. I love the site, but have been absent now for several days. PLEASE, stay off of Reddit for at least the next few days, we’ve got a point to make - that our community is mightier than the greedy corporation. The CEO says it will “…all blow over soon…” Let’s prove him wrong. It’s hard, but we need to stay off the site until management gets the point. It’s ok to explore profit-making moves, but it’s not ok to attack the community and valued third party app devs. #redditblackout#redditapi#redditstrike#redditapiprotest
@christianselig I’m so sorry to hear the app is shutting down. I subscribed to it last year, and it has been a joy to use! I look forward to seeing what future projects you come up with. 🙏 #ApolloApp#redditapi
