Dear #Tory voters, or Scumbags if I may be informal, if you don't want a society filled with what you perceive as "jobsworths", then maybe don't create a society where being fired and facing unemployment is a fast track to permanent soul crushing poverty. Because if being unemployed is intolerable, people are not gonna put their jobs at risk to bend the rules for you.
Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, were detained late on Monday night on allegations of sexual aggression. The warrant was issued by Westminster magistrates court.
Actually the real reason is that Reform needs them back in the UK to campaign for them although Sunak hopes to persuade them to come over all #Tory for the next election. Not a lotta people knoe that.
When three previous #Tory Home Secretaries including even Priti #Patel think that #Gove’s extremism plans are dangerous then you know this is the desperate, nasty death throes of a politically spent party…
🇬🇧 Labour will not stop the #Tory undermining of #NHS
“Even a Labour government committed to reviving the NHS will not seek to disturb its growing interdependence with the private sector. One patient’s desperation boosts one private provider’s dividend, yes, but it also means that person gets care which the enfeebled, overwhelmed NHS can no longer provide when it is needed. Tragically, that will not change anytime soon.”
“KILL ME NOW. Literally, who cares? I mean, here we have a prime minister who has guided the economy into a recession. Who is prepared to break international law to fly a plane load of refugees to Rwanda. Who has done nothing to stop the NHS from falling apart. Who is now trying to fight a culture war that he has started. Who takes no responsibility for the extremism in his own party.”
The #Tory engineered crisis of the #NHS was always intended to push the better off into the arms of private #healthcare, but it has also had the effect of producing a socio-economic rationing of care across the system.
For the #Tories this is another 'win' as the more they can discredit the NHS' character as a universal system, the less the NHS will be able to rely on a socio-political support/defence...
#JeremyHunt & his team have spent the last week flying kites about possible #taxcuts in the #budget, while also warning that the its is a 'long path' to cutting the UK's record overall tax burden.
This looks like an exercise in trying to confuse voters into thinking he's taking all the steps mentioned, while reassuring 'markets' (in the way of the Truss budge) that he's not going to take them really.
It suggests (as ever) that a #Tory budget's optics are very different to its actual effects!
“The corporate media are do everything in their power to undermine George Galloway’s by-election victory – but failing miserably (and laughably). Now, an incredibly awkward video has shown BBC staff holding a markedly uncivil conversation in Rochdale.
At one point, a man is seen pointing at his camera viewer and asking:
There was an inevitability about the twitching #Tory hydra, thrashing about in its final throes, hissing about banning protest.
The entire ideology of the Hard Right revolves around stripping rights. From your Freedom of Movement, to your freedom of association, your right to express dissent, your right to walk the public highway, to criticise your rulers, to address a jury, to withdraw your labour, to be accepted at face value with a ballot card in a polling booth. Despicable #Tory Scum.
Sir Starmer's "Labour" party has promised to keep with Tory spending policies so every vote for either one of them is a vote for more of what we've had for the last fourteen years.
You all know I like a good #economics chart, so here's ten(!) with a discussion of each from Richard Partington (Guardian)....many of these will be familiar from my previous posts (if in different form from my usual FT ones), but this piece does a good job of bringing it all together - I would say 'enjoy' but there's little to enjoy here, just the relentless pain of #Tory economic wrecking, mismanagement & #classwar
“There was no real argument to Sunak’s speech. Nor was there any real rhetorical power. He is a prime minister unfortunately blessed with levitas. It’s almost impossible to take what he is saying seriously.”
More detail (should you want it) on the crisis in local government, its clear link with both #austerity & #Tory attrition against local #democracy.
The most corrosive aspect is the downgrading of local expectations in light of Council failures & budget constraints. As so often the Tories project is to encourage a despair about governance, to push people towards private provision.
Unlikely this will be swiftly reversed by an incoming Labour Govt.
Two charts to focus your mind on fifteen years of 15 years of #Tory#economic mismanagement or wrecking of the state (or both).
So if the tax take is on the up, and so is public debt, the Q. must be how much is accounted for by interest payments on the national debt & how much is being siphoned off to the #Tories & their chums... because the taxes & loaned money is not finding its way into the #NHS, public #infrastructure or anything else in sufficient quantities....
I don’t agree with #Guardian@guardian columnist Polly #Toynbee on much, given her full-throated betrayal of #Corbyn during the #IsraelLobby’s cynical fake #AntiSemitism assault on his leadership and the movement he inspired! Her subsequent sucking up to Sir-Keir-the-#KidStarver and her largely uncritical endorsements of his shifty, vacuous ‘policies’ makes me sick!
Nevertheless, I confess to being wholly in agreement with her assessment, in today’s Opinion piece, of the (let’s face it) totally ‘shite’ state of #English#education at all levels after 14 years of #Tory misrule! I just don’t have any confidence whatsoever that, (if elected in Holborn St Pancras in the next GE) a PM #Starmer will be ambitious enough for our children and young people to implement any of the worthy remedies she proposes for fixing our absolutely dire educational system!
“The #Tories have sucked the joy from the education system. Here are three ways #Labour can bring it back”
The #Tory government demonises minorities and the vulnerable, supports murderous regimes, encourages racism and suppresses peaceful protest. The nasty party? It sounds more like the Nazi party to me.
Sunak is now complaining about so-called mob rule. Well, so am I! After 14 years of this criminal, self-serving mob ruling the country I've really had enough.
We need to get the #ToriesOut, and get #ProportionalRepresentation in, so we can move forward with a less divided and more caring society, and a country that works for everyone.
This is just a crumb of the kind of funds needed for flood prevention in #Norfolk. It’s too little, too late for those already have had their homes flooded.
Residents wait for years for action,129 homes most recently flooded and they are told it will be fixed long term with £150K.
