Wrote a post about VoiceOver’s Trackpad Commander (on Mac). It works in much the same way as VoiceOver on iOS: swiping and double tapping your way around the interface. Probably easier for a lot of people than all those keyboards shortcuts ✍️ https://www.tempertemper.net/blog/voiceovers-trackpad-commander-on-mac

It's the age of ai - wtf do I still have to write alt-texts for photos??

patrick_h_lauke,
@patrick_h_lauke@mastodon.social avatar

@hikingdude AI can't infer intent. it may be able to describe "what" is in a picture, but not with certainty why you as an author took it or what you're trying to draw attention to/convey. but yes, feel free to use AI tools to make an initial suggestion ...

Found this gem while looking back at history of the HTML to Accessibility APIs mapping specification

Feedback from then editor of the specification

"the proposed document is unnecessary. Vendors have not shown an inability
to read the existing normative specifications"

Am I being pedantic when I get annoyed when I read an update in the App Store and it says "this update contains bug fixes and performance improvements?"
It just seems lazy to me.
Have you fixed anything in particular?

Great to hear that the people are adding improvements over the weekend. I’m predicting plenty of fun with this from the community.

Do people seriously not understand how much gatekeeping there is in the statement "you need to understand the of the [before you should be here]"?

The Culture of the Fediverse™ is by design and necessity something that can and should evolve. If it is going to succeed it must evolve.

You can't say "everyone is welcome here" and then turn around and say "but only if you adjust to a set of cultural expectations that no one will explain to you or write down."

Crazypedia,
@Crazypedia@pagan.plus avatar

@hrefna yes. And I think what many people are trying to say is that the culture here was started by folks very invested in and inclusivity and changing how social media is expected to work and how one behaves. The push back is against learned behaviors from corporate media that creates adversity as a the primary form of engagement.

But try saying that to every new person joining somewhere in the fediverse 😅

@wikipedia Wikipedia should underline its in-article links. Often these are long noun phrases with two or more links in them, and you can’t know which words are links without hovering.

I know removing underlines has been basically de facto design on the web for the last 20 years, but it is bad for usability.

Day 159. Text Size is one of my favorite Control Centre controls. It lets you quickly change the Dynamic Type size, of the whole system. But also, you can now specify a different setting per app. Also, check out Dark Mode, Magnifier, Sound Recognition...

Day 158. You can add your Accessibility Shortcuts to Control Centre too. One more quick access point and one more reminder to get you testing often and quickly.

During the recent by , we've noticed trailer. Apart from being witty and visually different, it highlights the 'Arachnophobia' mode that allows players to deactivate spiders. It is not the first time but we love it, 'cause it feels like a small thing that can make a difference.

Would you activate it? What are some other things that can become optional?

Getting tired of squinting, and they don't seem to honor the main font settings, or have one of their own that I could find.
