@jmhorner I'm dangerously close cuz there's always discount codes for it but now I'm just so confused because they have 'tiers' and I can't for the life of me figure out the actual difference having never even used it 🤔
I've been asked to do an online meeting on Friday and this will involve screen sharing. I tend to avoid these things like the plague and have already told them I don't use Zoom or Teams.
Are there anythings I need to be wary of from a privacy point of view?
@SmartmanApps@DavBot Ah I’m on Mac but I could set up a whole new user account which unlikely has any admin privileges. Something to look into. Thanks!
@dansup
Stick with current. Alt 1 doesn't take enough advantage of the available space for each section and Alt 2, even if compact, could be problematic for profile links.
I'm jealous of the little Python logo badge many of y'all have next to your names and many #Python community folks I appreciate (@fedidevs, @ThePSF, and many others) are on fosstodon.
I've been posting on mastodon.social for a while and I have no meaningful complaints though (ever since the servers were upgraded!).
Should I switch to fosstodon.org? (Multiple select voting is allowed)
@treyhunner@fedidevs I got exactly two account on two server where the "Local" feed is more useful than any other feed: the Esperanto Server and the Washington DC server. For Esperanto, not everyone tags their posts with Esperanto, but almost everyone sets up an Eo account on the Eo server. The DC server is all DC people, but not all people who live in DC or post about it joined the server. There is a difference in moderation & tag availability on different servers.
My #ActivityPub server is receiving “GET /poco” requests from #Friendica servers (based on the user-agent). Can anybody point me to the documentation for this behavior? #AskFedi
@omz13@hypolite I see now what your talking about. This is super weird. Maybe a bug in federation between the newer version that masto.social is running and #friendica since the thread is all intact on my version of mastodon.
Been reading r/worldnews for a decade now and lately it has been really revealing what a propaganda machine it has become. Just got perma banned for pointing out that "legal war targets aren't necessarily ethically correct"
With Artifact gone, reddit basically gone - what other sources do you use for #geopolitics?
@hobs Thank you! Please eliminate the NFL hashtag. I make a point of telling people to not hashtag NFL, and NFL is only used during live-posting. MANY thanks again. @wraptile@rbreich@JosephMenn@MikeDunnAuthor@gtconway3@ClimateNewsNow@DemocracyMattersALot
You would not believe the struggles I've had sourcing footwear. For five years now, I have been completely unable to find a shoe that satisfies all three of:
Fits me and is comfortable to wear and put on;
Doesn't break within weeks (including not just aesthetic damage but breakage in the sole letting water in, which is both uncomfortable – I've had to buy waterproof socks – and makes the shoe stink and therefore unusable long-term);
Is of even a broadly acceptable style.
Ordinarily, "get an artisan to make you one" is not the most helpful answer to the question of how to acquire something, but in this case I'm desperate. Hence, this #AskFedi, where I'm seeking a shoemaker in the South East of England who I can commission to tailor me a pair of shoes.
I'm willing to pay a fair bit of money (but not huge prices), because I can't afford to keep replacing shoes that are functional for maybe a whole fortnight if I'm lucky, or taking a punt on the latest shit that Long Tall Sally assures me will actually fit on my feet at all this time.
@mxtthxw As far as I'm aware, it is. I really like the look of both #Liberapay & #Comradery, but since they both only do recurrent donations, a la Patreon, they're not so useful for musicians.
@NatureMC@eclectech When I was a child, we used to blow on the dandelion seed head and count how many puffs of breath it took to blow away all the seeds. That, supposedly told you the time. (e.g. three puffs equals 3 p.m.) Of course it didn't actually work but it was a fun game.
I'm going to have to step away from the dandelion fluff thread for a while, but big thanks to everyone sharing their names, and know that my future will definitely involve a dandelion spreadsheet leading to some kind of summary infographic 😆
Ok, hear me out! I was just wondering if I close my eyes (and therefore shut down my sense of vision), does my brain reduce its power consumption?
I mean: is all those sophisticated image processing in there turned off when there is no input? And if it saves power, how much?
