Bee-keeper column capital on the former British Linen Bank building on Govan Road. I love spotting these sorts of little details on Glasgow's buildings!

Way too many bees, way too high in a tree, so left them a baited box. I don't need any more bees, but better than the bees finding their way into someone's attic and pest control getting called, I guess. We'll see if they get a clue and move in.

Woah, peeked inside the swarm trap with the endoscope, looks like these ladies will go right into a full sized hive - nice catch if I do say so myself!

Inside of the swarm trap viewed with the endoscope - there is a very large cluster of bees filling up most of one side of the box.

lesson of the day. Don't leave empty nucs without frames in the backyard, lest a swarm move in the next day.

Swarms to my backyard this year... maybe a few more, I lost count. And two of these were two swarms the same day:
May 27
May 22
May 12
May 8
May 5
April 9

We changed out the queen's deep super this afternoon, added a new deep super, & put all on a new base board. (Old base board was disgusting.) I think we need a new lid, too! 😅 Geeze... At least they were pretty tame. We were sweatin'. 🥵

Hubby holds up a frame full of bees and brood.
Moving a frame full of bees from the old super to a new deep super/hive box.

capture of some bees abandoned by a commercial beekeeper. Not sure if this has a queen, seems to be the only group which might. In theory other bees will "drift" over to this other hive, but I have yet to see that happen.

Interesting. looks (almost) edible. My son's handiwork. He also made the soap mold from scrap hardwood from my stash.

Third extracting session already this year a few days ago. The one day it was sunny! Not sure what they are foraging, but this is what color.

Nowe podejście do nudnych filmów o pszczołach. Zgodnie z trendami film został nagrany z wykorzystaniem techniki FPB (First Person Beekeeper). xD

Założyłem konto na kolejnej instancji PT i tu O.o. nie ma limitu rozmiaru pliku z filmem. Profil instancji jak rozumiem geeky/nerdy to filmy muchach spoko c'nie? ;-)

Now there is a queen cell that would be easy to miss!

Hello from the - another swarm!!!

LOL just gave some equipment to someone here from the Fediverse to attempt a swarm-in-the-attic capture (good luck, Matt!), and he mentioned his wife asked "ARE YOU SURE THIS BEN GUY YOU HAVE NEVER MET ISN'T GOING TO MURDER YOU?!"

Checked the bees today and got a great picture of the queen!

Interesting, one of our appears to be foraging wild olive trees. (the provenance of those olives is very unclear, they are wild olive trees--ancient--underneath the oaks here. Perhaps spread by birds from early settlers?) Never had olive honey before!

Which are better, synthetic miticides or organic acid treatments? What about chemical-free? A large-scale, multi-year study of colony health and survival. Is a 'healthy treatment-free' colony an oxymoron?

Giant next to some of our beehives. The rancher says the avocados are noticeably bigger next to our hives, and wants to distribute them across the orchard to try to increase the size if the rest of the ranch.

@NatureMC Thank you so much, this is fascinating! & the 3 videos so informative. The ring template is a nifty tool.
I started wondering about honey extraction, & was delighted to read of a achieving good yields this way in UK, with healthy & delicious :

New comb on the front frame: on the left is honey and pollen, the middle is mostly worker brood with a few larger drone cells, and the newest comb on the right is all larger drone comb which the queen started laying in today 🐝🐝🐝✨

New comb in plastic square frame dividers on the front frame of the observation hive. Bees are busy working on all of it.

Flir thermal images of the blue swarm hive, this is the thermal impression of what a healthy hive looks like. Very cool gadget!

Thermal image of the corner of the hive, with lighter orange and yellow showing where the heat from the cluster is.

New instance, who dis?

I am a middle aged guy who has an old and rusty degree. Its enough to make me furious about the state of the world and the lack of leadership / thought shown by "governments" and the ruling class.

I am an avowed . I hate any form of hierarchy. I am no better than you and you are no better than me.

Also love and but not all at once. Unless its running from angry bees. too
