Not a very robust bloom this year, but I'm just happy to see #flowers at all. (Last year the unusually warm winter - yes, I blame #ClimateChange - meant buds formed too early, then they all died off in early spring freezes.)

Golden Falls

During the spring the Dogwoods in Yosemite have large white flowers. In the fall the leaves turn yellow and fall off the tree.
An early fall storm hit the valley and dropped a good amount of snow.
I used Intentional Camera Movement to create a waterfall affect for this.
The green background from the cedars blends well with the yellow dogwoods.

My yard is having a great time. So, bear with me as I keep posting. The first was busy collecting nectar along with bumblebees. My looks better on a clear day. The red variety of is doing well, too. The Japanese gives us a touch of autumn feeling. GA, USA

Good news is that flower pollen doesn't bother me at all. Lighter pink started, and three other types are budding. blossoms are so difficult to capture right now. Also, the first of the season.

Dogwood Dream

In the spring time the dogwoods along the Merced River bloom in large white flowers and the river serves a wonderful backdrop for these beautiful flowers.
This image of the dogwoods has been enhanced to pull the colors out of these flowers and to put it into a frame that is surreal.

Dogwood On The River

It's mid spring in Yosemite National Park. All of the snow has melted, the falls are flowing at their maximum rate, and the animals are running wild in the park. Down along the Merced River and throughout the valley the Dogwoods are blossoming.

I went back to the marsh today and this time I remembered to take my camera!

This is a male katydid wasp, a medium to large black wasp with orange legs and very long, mobile antennae. Since its abdomen is black, it is a male (females have an orange abdomen). Since it is male, it doesn't have a stinger and in this form, it survives on nectar. It is getting nectar from mountain mint flowers, which are small, clustered flowers that are white with lavender dots inside.
A beautiful water lilly, with snow white petals and a profusion of golden stamens in the center of the cupped flower.
Berries from the gray dogwood bush on red stems. The green berries will turn white and they are very popular with birds.

Dogwood on the Merced

Spring time in Yosemite is a magical time where the Sierras come back to life after a harsh winter.
The Merced flows strong and throughout the valley the dogwoods blossom. Most of the dogwoods in Yosemite have a very nice white blossom.

I like dogwood. They are native to , hearty, can be a privacy barrier, can grow 6 feet high or more, easily transplanted and propagated, feed birds, grow just about anywhere and splash some color against winter's snow. They don't get the respect they deserve.
