My friend @danield managed to grab from his pond the one #goldfish I spotted last week! He brought a second one too. This is me transferring them to my #aquarium.
Meet Santa (white and red) and Big T (like Santa, but bigger — a reference to a recent KLR productions short video featuring a very fat cat named Big T)
I biked to the garden store doubled as a pet center, so I could get some newer fish food flakes. I bought a couple pots of armeria maritima rosea too, which luckily fit in my water pouch backpack 👌
Bonus photo: a baby frog (the size of a pinky finger nail) on the glass wall of a tank where the store staff held a few tadpoles among aquatic plants.
I actually thought about building a libre reimplementation of TikTok’s video editor, but abandoned that after realizing how much I hate TikTok.
Hopefully Loops - and #GoldFish, another planned alternative - won’t end up as bad, and won’t be as fucking brain-dead, even if not intelligent (social media in general, and TikTok in particular, cannot be intelligent).
This is the approach I'm working on too. We don't need one single Goodreads replacement. Readers want different things, and there are so many alternative services that take different approaches.
Heck, I list them on my own site, and I'd love to work with many of them on interoperability between systems.
@dansup@stux I'm loving your energy and do also advocate for diversity in the fediverse. However, doesn't this also inflate the development and maintenance cost since for every service their own apps for every platform has to be developed and maintained? Isn't this quite costly over time? :Blobhaj:
When stux was tinkering with #goldfish I contributed a few euros, not much but better than nothing. And now it looks like the time has come to support dansup and #loops because that's some S tier quality work he's doing there!
A while ago I've set my focus back on web dev again and mainly the Goldfish concept 💪
Currently I'm busy getting fully back into the code with courses so that we can rewrite the front- and backend in the right away with a seperation and API :blobcathearts:
@DrPlanktonguy I've been glad to see so much of the fishkeeping hobby talking honestly in recent years about how much better it is to keep fish that will be happy in the size tank that you've got
but we have a loooong way to go with the Petcos of the world
(I've def kept invasive species...and I've had to euthanize a couple over the years, and while that's not fun it's part of the responsibility)
Miss kitty is sitting on a chair beside the table and curiously watching her goldfish friend and wondering “What is that?” You know what they say about the curiosity of the cat.
