As many of you know, the third party iPhone/iPad app Metatext is no longer being maintained as the lead developer had health issues. However, there is now a community-maintained version of the app called Feditext. You can follow the latest news about it at:
I hope #Feditext keeps all of the best features and the look and feel of Metatext, and adds what, to me, was missing, like #QT, that I now have in #IceCubes, and threading, like in #Toot! 🤞🏿
@piotrsikora@SceNtriC Co klient to inaczej.
It hasn’t been working for at least 1-2 weeks. It used to.
The same app on the same phone works for ALT in this account (mastodon.cloud).
Any ideas?
@albertcardona While I was looking at your photo (in the #IceCubes app on my iPhone), I happened to drag my finger against the bird image, and pulled just the bird away from its original location! Totally repeatable there, a faint white outline expands out from the touch to the bird outline before it moves. How can that be possible? Can't make it happen anywhere else... #IceCubesApp#Hummingbird
@albertcardona Thank You! I see it now... You have to tap a clearly delineated and fairly large object in a photo. Sometimes the halo expands to select the whole image, sometimes it doesn't appear at all. If there is any text nearby, you trigger recognition instead. Works in the Photos app, and in #IceCubes but have never seen it work in Safari. Amazed I never triggered it in years past...
I love @ivory , but @IceCubesApp allows me to choose the language in which I write and preview multiple instances from the perspective of a member of a given instance. It makes things a lot easier
@timkmak First, TY SO much for being here and know that your reporting on #Ukraine is vital and appreciated! I’m a #Counteroffensive subscriber. Now three suggestions, already mentions by others here:
In a word: #hashtags! That’s what makes #Mastodon and the #Fediverse go round, and what will keep your toots top-of-mind in people’s feeds.
A solid 3rd-party app to help organize your posts. #IceCubes, #Ivory … can others chime in with options?
Today I tried several 3rd party clients on iOS and MacOS: #Mammoth #Tusker #IceCubes #Metatext
But most likely I will stick with #PWA version of Mastodon. It doesn't need any updates and has all recent features.
I'm going to build the best #mastodon client ever and it's just going to do one thing better than every other one ever built; hide #boosts you've already seen.
@feditips I don’t access the account via the website, but I typically use the #Metatext app as my primary and the #IceCubes app for things where it excels (my needs), such as editing and quoting
Metatext doesn’t give me any lag problems and even excels in most other things
I posted some comparisons between the two the other day and tagged you. There are some good details about their pros/cons that might complement this
@feditips I neglected to mention that when the #IceCubes app refreshes, it will only download the oldest 200 posts at a time, until my #timelines/ #notifications are up to date
The one thing I love in having #MastodonBirdUI as default is that my profile and instance looks like this on the outside. For people that don't know Mastodon and prefer more "familiar" look, it might feel more inviting. #MementoMoriSocial#BirdUI
1️⃣ #Unread RSS Reader (@unread ) - THE best RSS reader out there. No competition. I use this daily.
2️⃣ #IceCubes (@IceCubesApp) - Easily the best Mastodon client you can get your hands on (and I’ve tried them all)
3️⃣ #Everlog (@wessley) - The most cost effective and beautiful looking journal app. I manually check for AppStore updates on this thing. Love it.
I'm trying out Ice Cubes on macOS. Anyone have any tips?
One peeve so far is that images display at some huge resolution, only allowing me to see one post at a time. Should love for posts to take up less screen space overall.
BUT the app sure feels nice and more responsive than some web clients I have been using!
#Threads is an app trying to play nice with the Fediverse while attempting to keep all of its corporate shenanigans intact, and keep full control out of the people's hands. Typical.
There's this other place, actually many other places. It's called the #Fediverse where you are not funneled into corporate algorithms and have full control of what you want to see.
When someone includes the url to a Mastodon post in a post (which people often do to stand in for "quote tweeting"), if I click on that url the post in question doesn't appear in the right-hand column of the web interface but instead opens a new tab from within the instance of that url. Worse, this means I'm not signed in there and can't directly engage with the post.
Possible to get these Masto urls to open within the web interface when clicked?
