The full post for the latest of ep. 40 has been published!

This WIP reveals who Knockout Tango was talking to in the preview post from the 24th and also shows Midnight Conductor dramatically posing!

That one is a recreation of a panel from the prev. comic version b/c I lost some of the original .SVG files 😭

That's frustrating to do double work but progress continues.

I just learned about this feature request. While sketches export nicely as SVGs, they are limited; for example, I can't put constrained text in them, and if I export faces made from sketches, they are lots of tiny line segments from the model, not the underlying shapes. Constraints that can apply to arbitrary SVG objects, like text, would be wonderful.☺

I love a good contribution to help out with more documentation. Thanks Tamir!

3D Design tool for needy kids, the search continues.

We have old laptops to loan out to kids from poor backgrounds. They don't have internet. 2D design we have covered with #inkscape, and the laptops run #linux well (but not Windows). What I need is a 3D design program. Suggestions welcome.

You can use #Inkscape as a filter on the command line for #SVG files with --pipe (for input) and --export-filename=- (for output):

cat my.svg | inkscape --pipe --export-type=pdf --export-filename=- | some-pdf-processing-pipeline

Good news, it compiles!

OK so it's still got a lot of problems. 😅 But I haven't actually been able to compile at all since November.

Made a little #map of #Edinburgh city centre. Data came from #openstreetmap via #QGIS and the rest was done in #inkscape

Honestly didn't realise there was quite so much greenery within the city centre!

This week's update video is out https://youtu.be/zdqlGv-s71M

The basic news is that Inkscape 1.4 will be Gtk3 based, and out Gtk4 rollout will be delayed.

My own work is highlighting improvements to the export dialog.

More color news to follow in the coming weeks. Thanks for sharing my videos and supporting my work everyone!

Made my first font with and , then testing out in Inkscape!

Inspired by Uncial, upper case and text figures only for now.

Keming is important but still to learn that bit, hence the disturbing gaps after letter F. And 8 is way too big.

Well that's

chat server Rocket Chat decided to make their latest upgrade plain abusive. If you run your own, you are now required to enrole in a trial of their premium proprietary nonsense and it's likely the server is spying on it's admins and users.

great

Looks like is going to have to move chat systems. There's just no way to regain trust in an upstream that is abusive. Not without forking away from the abusers.

Using 1.0 to create an SVG font using the "Typographic Canvas" template and its SVG font editor. So far, so fun!

But every so often the guides vanish, and I have no idea why, or how to get them back (the guides are still enabled in the view menu, it's not that).

Anyone know if it's possible to re-apply a template, or how to get them back?

Does anyone want to get into trying out new features in ?

Jabier has made a feature branch and I don't have time to test it myself, but I thought some of you guys might be looking for small and easy ways to contribute:

Go to here https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/merge_requests/6151 go to pipelines, download the latest for your os and give it a thumbs up on gitlab or your critique if it's failing.

So I've been working on this little side project for a couple of weeks. It's likely buggy so let me know if you find oddities.

Anyways, here's SVG Filter Maker, a graph-builder-like tool to craft your own filters: https://svgfm.chriskirknielsen.com/

Your work is invaluable, @chriskirknielsen! Never thought about visualizing effect filters, but now makes a lot more sense because of such a tool.

I mean, in terms of non-destructive workflows and , the only thing I know that Just Works™ is . Of course, if ever got approved by Consortium, the progress would be apparent. Well, nevermind that! Having node graph for path effects, additionally, would probably make up for a stellar experience.

Your tool is something else: it comes at rescue in understanding raster SVG effects. I have a hope. 👍

Started working on a sickbay for the USS Cerberus. Gonna be a mix of Voyager and Enterprise-E as far as influences, but with its own color pallet and details.

It's quite dark at the moment as most light sources aren't set up yet, I intend the final set to be brighter.

You can read up more on the Cerberus here: https://tadeodoria.com/pages/prometheus

So... I completely redesigned the room as I wasn't happy with how Voyager-esque it was.

It now has a symmetrical layout with two beds at each side of the central surgical area, with a nurse station also at the center of the room. At one end there's a glass division connecting to the chief medical officer's office.

It's nearly there, I just need to do some more LCARS, finish the biobeds, the surgical area, and some other details.

A view of two biobeds, grey metallic structures with red mattresses and pillows, and white blankets over them.
A view from behind the nurse station, with the surgical area visible in the background. It has a central bed surrounded by blue light fixtures on the circular walls.
Chief medical officer's office. It has a central desk framed by two light columns, between these columns there are hanging plants on the back wall. To the side there's a screen displaying a medical analysis.

'I wonder if Shape builder in recognises guides as possible object edges', I thought, and went to check.
No, it doesn't, but would be a useful feature :) As it is, I'd have to help it by adding short straight paths where the ring is crossed by guides.
