if it were up to some of these commentators, Allen Iverson, Derrick Rose, g'damn Steph Curry would have never made it in college basketball and even less in the #NBA 🤨
In St. John's they have a really unusual aquarium, called The Fluvarium. It's essentially windows into a stream with salmon and trout. It's not, if I'm honest, the best tourist attraction, but it can make for some fun fishy photos!
One of the key demands of the #YouthLed & organised global #ClimateStrike movement #FridaysForFuture St. John’s, is an end to Energy Company #Equinor 's #BayDuNord#oil project, which consists of several oil discoveries in the Flemish Pass basin, some 500 km northeast of St. John's.
Just saw Freecycle.org data breach 😿 Prompts to change passwords.
I've used it in Calgary to re-home second-hand , perfectly usable stuff. I buy books but don't keep hem. Freecycle helped me find a funnel of folks who wanted them.
I see #StJohns#Newfoundland on there, but no posts. Anyone in #yyt know what other site/service is used to connect folks to exchange free things?
I post this knowing few NLers on the fediverse. If you know some folks living there, boost it to them? Thanks. 🌞
I understand that newspapers need support through subscriptions, but I often worry about about how this makes reliable information a luxury for those with the means to afford it.
Meanwhile misinformation & disinformation are widely accessible & free. #news#journalism
We visited the Queer Market at St. John's Farmers' Market. It was pretty packed; I started getting anxiety even with a mask. I've never been in such a large crowd of #Queer and #GenderQueer people.
A couple people were at a table selling "free hug" buttons (I bought one trans and one rainbow). I think they noticed my eyes watering at the sight, and asked if I needed a hug.
The NE leg of this intersection has a signalized #crosswalk w/ beg button. Town staff just converted it to rest-in-walk, which is lovely. But there's a permissive yellow that allows drivers from the arterial to turn left while the #walk sign is active.
We may have the option to* either*:
keep the rest-in-walk
or
eliminate the permissive yellow but lose the rest-in-walk
@DrTCombs I didn't know what "rest-in-walk" was so looked it up and found this "By using 'Rest in Walk,' the crosswalk will sit in the Walk interval until a conflicting vehicle or pedestrian places a call." But how do they "place a call"? And if they can "place a call", why would there also be a permissive yellow turning light? Here in #stjohns we don't have either of those features--car drivers just turn when they feel like it.
