I've been sleeping a lot the last several days, which is good. Inadequate or low quality sleep makes a huge difference in how well our minds and bodies work.

I think back on the last several months of doggie hospice home care, helping with an adult disabled family member left without caregivers after her parents died, watching friends and family disabled by the plague, seeing HCW colleagues struggle, and no wonder it was hard to catch a solid night's rest.

I feel like I can sleep for weeks.

What really happens to Democracy if one political party ceases to exist?

In California we have many races where the top two candidates are both Democrats and this works for us as far as I can tell. Perhaps it creates a money issue where the Democratic party is funding two campaigns.

I don't quite get how he managed to take over the RNC. This is what he wants to do to our country. On the surface the destruction of the Republican party sounds like a win overall if we could have a choice between 2 different Democrats rather than a Dem and a Republican. But I also don't understand the money part. Candidates are limited but PACs are not. What about the RNC. Can foreign countries and billionaires give TFg all the money he needs to manage his expenses and still campaign?

Donald Trump's newly installed leadership team at the Republican National Committee on Monday began the process of pushing out dozens of officials, according to two people close to the Trump campaign and the RNC.

All told, the expectation is that more than 60 RNC staffers who work across the political, communications and data departments will be let go. Those being asked to resign include five members of the senior staff, though the names were not made public. Additionally, some vendor contracts are expected to be cut.

It’s not, it has horrendous hardware, server housing and water and power requirements; it’s just that VCs are financing it now so you get in on the hype and later they will charge you rent and it will cost you way more—with inferior results—than, you know, hiring the writers and artists it’s stealing from, but those will be gone by then.

    Long night so far.

A call from my sister just after midnight that she’d taken mum to the hospital.

Been holding bedside vigil while sister goes home and gets some sleep. Doctors running tests and whatnot. Morphine for the pain. Machines that go “bing”.

It’s about 4:30am and mum’s snoring with a plethora of tubes and wires.

Eyes are heavy. Chair is uncomfortable. The nurses showed me where I could make a cup of coffee for myself.

A bunker feels like a lack of ambition. I'm surprised they don't go for "large town", "city", or "small nation".

It's one of those questions like, "what's the minimum viable civilisation that can support a chip foundry?".

Have you ever had an uncanny or possibly paranormal experience?

    I have.

It happened when I was in undergrad, I had a work-study in the Archivists Office in the rare books section of the library. The library is a classic modern building from the 50s, once ahead of its time, now well behind. The computer system was similar, my college being one of the first to adopt a digital library catalog in the late 60s

So, as you can see, this is, in part, a story of a haunted computer terminal. 1/

I have an experience that I still can't believe.

My mom was a smoker and got lung cancer with 1 year to live. She did not stop smoking. She smoked 4 packs a day. All the items in her home and the actual home had been covered in residue from the smoke. She lived in the house for 30 years. She had a 5000 sq ft single story house. She was a hoarder but not like the people on TV. She didn't have trash but some rooms were very full. She had items from deceased relatives in addition to her stuff.

I was over there and cleaned the whole house. I thought wouldn't it be nice if it burned down? I had no idea what to do with the items. Then I decided, nah, it was too big and would only have partial damage and be more complicated to clean out.
I moved all the dishes and containers from her room and washed them. I for some reason left a pitcher on the counter.

I went home and got a call at 3am that my mom's house burned down. To the ground.

This was so nice to read. I have two neighbors flying TFg flags and one with a "stand for the anthem, kneel for the cross" tire cover. I am always conflicted. I try to focus on the 100s of neighbors not advertising TFg, but there are no Biden statements. It is a bit scary here to have Democrat signage. I did before and had a group of young boys driving by my house repeatedly and shouting unknown things so I am not comfortable. It says a lot that it feels safe to have Republican ads but not Democrat ads.

Something I've noticed a lot lately, is that especially Boomer women, but honestly, women in general, don't seem to ask for what they want or need in a direct way. I notice this a lot with my Mom and her friends. Instead of just asking for what they need directly they tell a story, to ask in a roundabout way. For instance, my Mom needed help this morning, and Instead of just saying, "Hey, I dropped my remote, can you pick it up for me?" She tells a one minute story about what happened, no ask, and eventually I get the point, and then suggest that I come pick it up. Or if one of her friends wants to do something like have a birthday party for a friend, they don't say "We should have a party!" They say, It's Sarah's Birthday coming up, you know she likes surprises, what does everyone think we should do?"

I often wonder if this is why older people think younger women are rude and demanding, because younger people often just ask for what they want and need in a more direct way. But also it's probably just straight up sexism, because men are supposed to make decisions, and women are supposed to make suggestions.

What do you all think? Is this just me? Have you experienced something similar?

    Adventurer,
    @Adventurer@sfba.social avatar

    @RickiTarr

I sometimes have trouble making up my mind and that is when I am wishy washy.

Using the surprise birthday party, if I was willing to do the work involved or at least manage the project and recruit others I would be direct. But if I was not sure if I wanted to do all the work I would probably present it similarly with the hope someone else would step up and do the majority of the work.

If I am comfortably on the couch and need more coffee I have no problem asking a family member who is standing up to get it.

    Off topic.
I noticed my mom, my aunt, and my MIL, all boomers, constantly lying about all kinds of things. Dumb things. I am not sure if it is a generational thing or if it is just coincidence.
Have you noticed lying in your mom's age bracket peer group?

I received 135 applications for my jobs. Had to narrow it down to only 11 people. The most I can handle interviewing is 13 people.

Then I'll either hire 2 people (one for each store), or one person who can handle both jobs.

Either 2 people will get 10 hours each, or one person will get 15 to 20 hours.

I cut my personal expenses down by $2,000 a month and will live on bare minimum I need, so I can throw that money at the expansion and employees. The Autistic Innovator will start to scale!

Hi. I am following along and so happy for you.

I have been gone from the corporate side for a long time but I have a couple of concerns that just came to mind when I realized how much this was going to cost you.

I worked for a larger corporation that has different rules than a small business but if you have the energy I think you should look a few things up. Workers comp, payroll taxes, any required benefits such as sick pay or insurance. Benefits may not be applicable at your size. This probably sounds onerous but it could help you know how many hours you can afford and how to structure the employer/employee relationship.

I am sorry if this causes you stress.
