Google are sending emails out asking people to add their UK National Insurance number to their Google Wallet and to authenticate via UK Govt Gateway.

Please do NOT do this. You are essentially signing consent via a digital handshake to tie information to a relationship you can then never trust.

Do NOT add your NI details.

Shocked Google and UK Govt are even suggesting you do.

@cloudguy You National Insurance number is how DWP and other Government Departments file your records. It is therefore important that you only share it with people /organisations that you trust. With your NINO and DOB, it wouldn't take long to clone 'you'.

@Strandjunker So should be the fact that Trump has been found guilty in the áuditing'/loans case and the process is merely to determine the size of the penalty. The reporting feels like a not guilty verdict is possible.

Myth: academics make bank flying around giving talks.

Reality: prestigious university invites me out. I fly across the country and speak free. I front the cost and submit for reimbursement. First they lose the paperwork. Then they reject it because of a digital signatures. Now, six months later, they reject it again, because the receipt does not show the last four digits of my credit card so they don’t know if I actually bought the ticket.

They heard me talk. How did they think I got there?

The state of identity verification in the UK:

  1. "You need a utility bill with your full name and address".
  2. Of course these are all online now, and even if you try to get paper ones for this very purpose the companies keep pushing you to online instead.
  3. Go download a PDF of the bill.
  4. "We cannot accept online bills, it must have been posted to your address"
  5. Print out the PDF
  6. Take a photo of it
  7. Email it to them
  8. Accepted

@tomw I took a job with a UK bank for a while and enjoyed driving them crazy with identity verification. All my utilities, Bank a/cs etc are on-line & I reminded them that Birth & Marriage certs are public docs so ineligible. Ended up with 9 yr old Driving licence & 8yr old passport!
