The Milwaukee County Zoo has been successful in breeding the critically endangered Northern Bald Ibis. While it's probably not the most beautiful bird that I've photographed, I can still admire stark contrast of the black feathers and red face and curved bright red bill.

While I was driving near a park in south Milwaukee in Wisconsin, I spotted a couple mute swans on the pond. They were dipping their heads and long graceful necks into the water to eat the vegetation at the bottom of the pond.

Amba was the Siberian Tiger at the Milwaukee County Zoo. In this photograph, she had just given birth to 2 cubs. The day of my visit, her cubs were being introduced to the public for the first time, and she was keeping a close eye on them.

Stella, the magnificent jaguar at the Milwaukee County Zoo. She is around 6 years old here. She first posed for me two years before and her gaze was still as striking. Seeing her looking into my eyes as I looked at her through my viewfinder was breathtaking!

7th in a weekly series featuring the Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners, Wisconsin: The storm was close and the thunder was rumbling, but I had to stop for one last shot. I barely made it to the car before the rain came down, but even if I hadn't, it would have been worth the stop!

Check out these coasters in my Redbubble shop - the Gazebo at the Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia. It was surreal to wander around the grounds during our stay at the Lodge, seeing the many views that were filmed during Dirty Dancing in the 80s.

6th in a weekly series featuring the Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners, Wisconsin: This was an amazing moment. Thunder was rumbling in the distance and a storm was approaching. The clouds had covered the sun but then parted for one last burst of sunlight. It created an oddly bright and dark scene.

    If you're ever driving on State Highway M-28 in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, you will see many roadside parks and places to pull over to enjoy the view of Lake Superior.

    Sometimes, though, you'll see the sunlight glistening off the water on the opposite side of the road and the view is just as pretty. This location is Deer Lake Roadside Park honoring Ross M. Wolfe.

    @LadyParadis Just saw a post from this lovely person where she was thanking the wonderful people who take time to post about their day, replying and posting in a pleasant and caring way.... What an awesome description of life here on , particularly if you're coming from that other place.

    It reminds me of something that happened when we moved from a metropolitan city in Wisconsin and into a much smaller town in Virginia. Very early on, we realized that complete strangers were waving at us as we drove by. Not flipping us off as they usually do in the big city (an exaggeration!), but it was still a remarkable difference in culture & friendliness. And a welcome change!

    That is just how I feel about Mastodon. I'm seeing more and more people commenting about how much more "social" Mastodon is than the other place (or any other social media, actually) and it gives me hope that I'm not just in a honeymoon phase -- but that that this truly is a way of life on Mastodon!

    @LadyParadis Awww, thank you for writing this! It is so true! I was getting a little worried that I was still in the honeymoon phase and that the vibe would eventually turn here. I've only been active on Mastodon for the last 2 weeks. Almost immediately, I was greeted kindly by someone when I posted one of my photographs. It's only gotten better since then! Cheers to you!

    I sometimes have to race the clock to get to a particular overlook in time for sunrise on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The speed limit is 45 mph and there are deer herds out before dawn. I was nearly too late and the sun was higher in the sky, so I used the tree as a silhouette.

    The Quadracci Pavilion was added to the Milwaukee Art Museum in 2001. It was designed by Spanish architect's Santiago Calatrava. The wings (Burke Brise Soleil "sun breaker") is a movable sunscreen and are only open if the winds are calm.

    When I first passed Rock Castle Gorge on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, it was raining and completely fogged in. When I drove past again a few hours later, this was the view! Breathtaking and awesome!
