Never on the bird site, but when I heard about Mastodon I thought it would be for old fossils like me, so I joined. Happy to be here as it is a very #Canadian space, warm and friendly. After doing some thinking turns out I’m a devout #atheist. This got me thinking about how churches are subsidized in #Canada, so now I’m going to do something about it. Getting back into print making this fall, the studio is almost finished, look for an anti-dogma series when the studio is up and running.

@Daojoan Joan, time to combine your article on habits and this one. Maybe it’s time to develop habits on ingraining new biases that work for the current situations. As you say we all have them, why not make them work for us like good habits.

@mbonsma Hey that doesn’t even have a lift kit or custom pipes. SO the lift kit can raise it easily another foot. I saw one guy at a grocery store who had to boost his kids into his truck.

Truly and honestly, I have a great time here, because you all make it great. You boost, you reply, you encourage, and inspire! It is crazy to me that I get to talk to people from all over the world every day. I get to be friends with people I'll probably never actually get to physically meet. I was born into a pre-internet world, and this still feels a little like a miracle to me.

Easily the best AM (medium wave) radio I have ever used, in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, and raw funness of use, is the Potomac Instruments FIM-41. Made from the 1970’s to around 2010, it’s actually a “field strength meter” designed for making compliance measurements of broadcast antenna patterns. Shockingly expensive new, they were sold mostly to broadcast stations and FCC enforcement offices.

It’s a box of pure analog/mechanical joy, with all the dials and switches.

@Teri_Kanefield Here in Canada we had been pretty smug, we hadn’t had the attack type politics till Harper brought in some US political consultants to win that election. Since then we have descended in a similar style of rage farming in our political campaigns. I’d love to blame it all on you guys in the US but we’ve accepted it. It has reduced the quality of discussion, the moderating factor here is minority government which are forced to discuss and develop better legislation.

@Teri_Kanefield thanks the article is great. I keep hoping for a solution. How do we get good discussion and bring different views to the table? Are strong arm moderators with a team of real-time fact checker the answer? In Canada we’ve devolved to elected members who blindly follow the party line even when it negatively impacts their constituents. The leader and the party are sacrosanct.

In his rally speech, Pierre promised he's "going to bring home" a "new & better" Canada that sounds like an imaginary 'Leave it to Beaver' episode.

The rumour is she started to go all Prices Di, so the royal family has her in advanced military brain washing program to turn her into a Trad wife preventing any future scandals. The plan is to brain wash all of the women in the royal family and Megan is next, they are just perfecting the process.

An embarrassing multi-million-dollar accounting error that occurred during PM Harper's tenure and was covered up for years at Veterans Affairs will end up costing taxpayers almost $1 billion.
More than 272,000 veterans were short-changed on pension and disability payments for almost eight years.
The error was fixed, but Harper's govt decided not to notify the affected veterans and not to offer reimbursement for the missed payments.

When the Guardian used a photo from a protest that had been shot 3 months prior on a different location (not related to the article) I chastised both the writer and made the write a correction. It’s work but we can change the bias by not accepting it. I’ll start reading the again. So when you see bullsh*t, write up here and let’s gang up on them.
