Apparently even the European Data Protection Supervisor #EDPS , can't find the funds for it's mastodon servers. Which is bizar if you think about all the "talk" about not relying on #bigtech , a more independent EU, open standards, security, importance of reliable information etc.

The score of Llama3 70B on the LMSYS leaderboard is impressive. Although it's also clear that the latest GPT-4 is still a lot better. However Llama3 is opensource and freely available and a larger version (400B parameters) is on the way and will be closer to GPT4 with regard to performance on the various benchmarks.

What'sApp uses the Signal Protocol to protect the contents of comms. But it doesn't protect things like your contact list, profile name, who's in a group chat, who's messaging whom, etc. Signal protects all of these. This is a very important differentiator.

Thomas C. Theiner not active in the fediverse posted some nice pictures on X about how elaborate the air and missiledefense was in europe during the coldwar. An enormous system is required to defend a large territory. We don't have enough equipment to fully protect Ukraine this way so the only option it seems is striking deep inside Russia at missile factories, airbases etc.
