Risk assessment needs a revamp.

Tim Lenton and Steve collaborated on another report for which those with pensions or those who have those with pensions can press their funds to respond to. It's their fiduciary responsibility to accurately assess risk (see pdf below)

The show returned this Saturday, and despite the internet throwing curveballs on the guest, it went well with the spiffy new host.

I have fun at Steve's expense. ;)

A riff on Kimmel's mean tweets was trialed. It has potential with a little work.

The problem with federated alternatives to centralized services (and also one of the main problems with centralized services which lead people to look for an alternative) is Discovery.

Etsy and Twitch and YouTube provide an audience, supposedly. With the right pitch (and the right advertising dollars) you can get your own slice of that audience. (For as long as the algorithm graces you, and as long as you're willing to stomach the other things your viewers will be algorithmically suggested.)

@ajroach42

Good question. I think a means to tip and transact fluidly, especially in the fediverse is a missing element. Tricky when payment comes into play, but it’s as essential to a digital world as commerce and press freedom is in its physical equivalents.

Wow, I can't imagine another group of professionals that has "almost a quarter" of its membership protesting. That should be a clue how serious climate change is.

"Almost a quarter of the scientists said they had participated in climate protests, as citizens who are deeply worried about global heating. This included scientists from every continent, including those from the US, Argentina, Germany, Bangladesh, Kenya and Australia."

@Greengordon

The most dramatic activism needs to be local. At this time immediately reshaping cities to car-free, greening and resilience measures again global food supply disruption is urgently needed.

The city should ask: can residents get to the necessities and daily life without a car? Is it secured ecologically and greened to absorb extreme flooding and moderate weather? Can it ride out a global (food) supply chain disruption of a year or so?

Perspective: the biggest carbon capture plant in the world sequesters 1 millionth of our annual emissions. We would have to build a million of these plants to not_increase the CO2 level. And we need to decrease the CO2 level.

Carbon capture is a scam.

GhostOnTheHalfShell,

@szakib

The most efficient capture is the stuff we never use. Change zoning laws and city financing of conversion is the top priority for car free, urban greening and ecological restoration.

GhostOnTheHalfShell,
@GhostOnTheHalfShell@masto.ai avatar

@szakib At this point there is too much focus on renewables (in the media).

I think climate protests in city counsels demanding changes is the absolute best use of people’s energies. It’s the kind of global action performed by a transformation of people’s outlook. Resilience measures against flooding and food supply chain disruptions are urgently needed.

ChrisMayLA6, to disability
@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us avatar

Across the political Right, the narrative is that disability benefits (primarily Personal Independence Payments; PIPs) are too easy to get & are often paid to the 'undeserving'... however, in reality nearly half of applicants are rejected, rising to over two thirds for endometriosis (a gendered dimension I'll leave you to ponder), but with high rates of rejections over-turned on appeal (often with the same evidence).

More Tory lies, callousness & inhumanity

Well, Jeff Bezos made over $7.9 million an hour last year.
