Avatar is a Photoshop of Barack Obama in a classic suit, framed from the chest up, speaking at a podium. His face is in what appears to be a slight scowl. The image is monochrome black and white, and his face has been altered to add Locs style sunglasses and a black baseball cap reading "Compton".

California here. The whole "it takes a gallon of water for an almond" thing is propaganda from the livestock industry. Virtually all farm businesses use a lot of water for relatively little payoff compared to your backyard, no matter what crop they're growing.

Almonds just got the brunt of that in California because we DO grow a lot of almonds in small farms here - it's one of the crops big ag doesn't own virtually all of in California.

Lemmie tell you why I can't stand stupid people. Not ignorant, everyone is ignorance by default, nobody is born knowing anything at all.

Stupid isn't not knowing. Stupid is not bothering to know. But still talking like you do.

Because even though I'm smart, I'm a quick learner, and I know that. I'm lazy. I procrastinate. I have MH issues.

You can learn as well or better than me. Anybody can. They just have to try. So if you act smart but don't know shit, that is 100% on you. 0 tolerance.

Itty53,
@Itty53@mstdn.social avatar

@SirTapTap

My only contention here is the insistence that "if I can, anyone can". That's just not how it works.

Think of learning as a physical sport. Given the right tools and assistance any body can play virtually any sport. Doesn't mean anyone can compete with the best of the best if they just practice enough.

Learning disabilities are a real thing, and laziness isn't part of it. They don't mean you get to speak with authority on whatever you care to, of course, but they are real.

Saying stuff out loud changes you, a whole lot more than just thinking things. There's real power in it.

It sounds vaguely nonsensical like The Secret or other self help bullshit but it's not, it's cognitive science. What you say shapes your brain.

Religions picked up on it but they're not behind it. Mantras, ritual, etc - they were human practices surrounding dealing with the human condition first, long before we spun up stories about them.

Keep doing that.

I want a more serious journalist than @tuckercarlson to interview . Someone who would bring up Nuland's recording, Merkel's comments on , pipelines, but also his assassinations etc of his critics. While Putin wouldn't allow that, we also seem to lack journalists interested in all sides of the conflict. The public isn't dumb, it's poorly informed and distracted. And we're treated like children unable to critically consume any media biased "by the other side".

It bothers me that this image reinforces the very conservative notion that adultery is something women do to men, but not the other way around.

There have been probably a hundred male politicians caught cheating since I've been paying attention. They're barely even stories anymore. But a woman politician cheats and it'll be a meme for years. Shit even with Clinton and Lewinsky, which of the two was vilified by history? Lewinsky.

Taylor Swift adopted one of Elon Musk's worst moves: launching lawyers at a student who's doing a totally legal (and useful) thing: tracking of her highly polluting private jet. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/02/06/taylor-swift-jet-tracking-legal-threat/

(I hope someone she trusts persuades her to drop this, pronto...)

Itty53,

@the_q @hippyniki @dangillmor

Counterpoint, the likelihood of being attacked because you're Taylor Swift is a lot higher than if you're Elon Musk. Unfortunately.

I'm not shedding tears over her jet being tracked but even with the same argument, Swift using it is less ridiculous than Musk. Musk's stalkers are a fantasy, literally. Swift's aren't, literally. How many violent threats has Elon suffered on his website? How many has Swift?

I should hate this. The stupid Adidas tracksuits, the silly cringy kicks from the guitarist who looks like someone's drunken uncle stumbled onto a music video set. The bassist guy with the mullet and porn-stache looks like the other drunken uncle is suffering a hangover. But dammit, this song kicks ass. The same goes for their other videos. Watching them, I want to facepalm through the back of my head, but the music rocks.

Highly underrated band. The album Cult Drugs is fantastic, but they're all good. The World Covered in Purple Shrouds, with it's Ennio Morricone trumpet line, is up there in my favorite songs from any band.

    People ought to laugh at them, openly. Point, even. We'd not be humiliating them, they're humiliating themselves.

    IMHO, each time a news moderator says "President Trump" rather than "Former President Trump" they should have to put $100 in a 'Cuss Jar'. The Impeached Rapist Racist Insurrectionist Liar hasn't been President in 1110 days....SO STOP!

    Joe Biden is POTUS.

    PS - Jose Diaz-Balart, we'll begin with you. You called him President Trump this a.m.

    @Atticus1956

    Yes he's a rapist, a traitor and more.

    However the office of president existed before him and should continue to exist after. He shouldn't get to change that no matter how awful he is. Right?

    The formal way to address any US president is President (Name), former or otherwise. The only time "former" should be appended is when actively distinguishing from the current, eg they're in the same room.

    This was a gripe Republicans had with referring to President Obama as such too.

    One of the problems with my brain is that it files any planning under "task accomplished"

    So I can't really make a proper plan with bullet points, deadlines, roles and responsibilities because when I do that my brain goes "Right, this is done, time to move on to the next thing" and immediately loses all motivation to do whatever I've just planned

    Please someone tell me how to undo this brain pathway or I'll have to improvise everything I'll ever do in my life until the day I die

    Itty53,
    @Itty53@mstdn.social avatar

    @JoFloHK

    Oh for long tasks, yeah that doesn't apply at all. That's more like a tip for a daily list. I admit I rely entirely too much on Jira and project managers for long term jobs. Probably something I could stand to work on.

    Itty53,
    @Itty53@mstdn.social avatar

    @JoFloHK

    Project management software a lot of development houses use. Meant for coordination between people, not personal tracking really. Though I guess you could.

    Still, not recommending that, that's like recommending you buy Photoshop for adding macro text to a jpeg.

    But maybe rather than a list, you might look for some light project management software? Could be useful.

    Itty53,
    @Itty53@mstdn.social avatar

    @JoFloHK

    I'm not greatly familiar with either but both seem to have the capability. I'd first try getting that out of the apps you already use instead of adding another to the pile.

    Trello has Due Date Reminders, seems to be what you're after:
    https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/mobile-due-date-reminders/

    With Monday.com it looks like you can set up automations that include notifications:
    https://support.monday.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002725619-How-to-create-alert-reminders

    May also be that, if it's a work app or a free version, you don't have all the features available.

    Biden: No, we will continue to fund it.

    Arab Americans, young progressives, etc.: So why should we vote for you?

    Biden: Because the other guy is worse.

    What’s worse than genocide? Are their dead loved ones and family members going to be double dead under Trump?

    Instead of blaming people for not voting for their own genocide maybe try blaming your candidate for sponsoring it.

    They're not all uneducated. They're drinking the koolaid because it tastes good.

    Propaganda that makes you feel righteous in repeating it is effective. It's propaganda that maintains that anything less than the ideal is evil, because the ideal doesn't ever exist.

    Intelligent people fall victim to propaganda all the time. They're potent targets because intelligent people are the hardest ones to convince that they just might be a bit wrong-headed.
