My husband returned from a few days spent with his parents. He said he had long talks with his inexplicably Trumpy dad about his support for him. Heโ€™s not a bad man, just easily manipulated by Fox News.

After long discussions, his dad came to him the 3rd morning and told him he sees everything more clearly and is embarrassed he voted for and supported Trump. My husband showed him truths he hadnโ€™t been exposed to before.

Proof we need to work harder to break the spell!

@KatM i think the lesson from "deep canvassing" is that asking people how they came to understand something allows them to see choice points along their path. Explaining, then, how we came to our understandings allows them to speculate about potential alternatives. Confrontation is counterproductive, but collaborative learning can be productive.

Lee's brother visited the Custis Lee Arlington House in late 1865, he said the family would be able to use the estate if the heroes buried in Lee's flower garden were removed. (There's no record of him calling them "losers and suckers.") Brigadier General Meigs, who was in charge of finding burial places for Union dead, immediately ordered additional burials close to the house. No traitor would ever live there again.
And there's no room for Confederate sympathizers.

This pickle brine is amazeballs in so much. I keep it neutral so I can use it anywhere, anytime. Itโ€™s 3 parts water, 2 parts vinegar, 1 part sugar.

Light bit of salt, MSG, & citric acid if you like a little thing called flavour, but donโ€™t let me stop you from not living your best life.

Anyhoo! Boil, then pour over your washed/sliced/jarred peppers. Let cool, cover, put away and use within 3 weeks (by which I mean 6 months).

Six years ago we took her big sister to Disney. We were waiting to meet Winnie the Pooh when a family with a child & a Park escort went around to be next in line. The woman behind us complained, "Why do they get to skip?" I replied, "Trust me, you don't want to be able to do that."
I only saw the strain in the parents' eyes. I only saw pain; I couldn't see the respite.
My younger granddaughter had her Make a Wish meeting this morning. I understand differently now.

@mentallyalex Violet is doing really well. She started on Trikafta July 1. It was made available for two-year-olds on her second birthday, but it takes a month to prepare for the medication. With this, her doctor said, she may be part of the first cohort of CFers who will die with Cystic Fibrosis, but not from it.
But we're still raising money for the Foundation. Trikafta doesn't work for everyone, and it is not a cure.

Sometimes I just lose my patience for certain dem-bashing clapdoodle. This is not the time to ruminate about the progressive ambitions of our wildest dreams. I'm committed to deep canvassing in my state house district (we have a particularly ugly fight with Trisha Cotham parachuting in, but also a potentially powerful counterpoint). @KimPerales "Stated missions" are for domestic consumption. they raise expectations, but will not quiet the calls from the left for "their" own Ernst Thรคlmann. President Biden is a pragmatic institutionalist. The more the far right attacks the very idea of the state, the more the far "left" echoes them. This peace process requires negotiations between two murderously intransigent far-right parties. Unrealistic expectations give then even more power.

The mob will always seek the perceived "strong leader," so the first stage is always to alienate the citizen from the state.
