I used my real name on the bird site to keep me nice. It didn't work, but cishet male privilege meant I mostly got away with it, so I'm not too optimistic about being "nice" on here.

@WecanbeGyros The Nazi Enabling Acts of 1934 (especially the Racial Purity Law) drew directly from Virginia's 1924 Racial Integrity Act. The involuntary sterilization provision of that Act was upheld 8-1 by SCOTUS in 1927's Buck v Bell. The miscegenation provisions weren't overturned until Loving v Virginia in 1967. (Coincidentally Virginia launched the "Virginia is for Lovers" public relations campaign the next year, & relaunched it in 2017 ahead of the 50th anniversary of Loving v Virginia.)

Republicans are seeking to gain political advantage from a terrorist attack by falsely linking the Iranian prisoner deal with the attack by Hamas in Gaza and taking shots at President Biden.

I remember a time, not too long ago, when American foreign policy was a bipartisan matter, and where we rallied around our leaders rather than try to tear them down in time of crisis. We need to return to that era so that we can be the United States of America to the rest of the world.

@georgetakei That time was a long time ago. The GOP used Korea against the Democrats. Nixon (!) used Vietnam against Humphrey (with a big assist from the self-anointed "left." Right now there is a severe shortage of FAA controllers. A will furlough all the trainers. Without them, the FAA can't replace controllers. Other workers won’t keep showing up without being paid.

While Social Security payments will continue to be made for now, there won’t be anyone to make changes. You just retired and want to start collecting SS? Too bad. You want to sign up for Medicare or Medicaid? Too bad. Your situation has changed and you are entitled to more money? Too bad.

New Mexico in Top 10! Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions: New Mexico had 479 gun deaths in 2020. Of those, 63% were suicides, 31% homicides and 6% other.
In a recent road rage incident, someone in a pickup truck fired 17 shots at the car of a family leaving a minor league baseball game.
