I used my real name on the bird site to keep me nice. It didn't work, but cishet male privilege meant I mostly got away with it, so I'm not too optimistic about being "nice" on here.

@Brandi_Buchman I'm old enough to remember when cells of traitors and saboteurs worked in the shadows and were rooted out by counter-espionage agencies. Now, the Federalist Society gets 501(c)3 status so its funding is tax deductible.

@RickiTarr Made first entry into a reactor containment vessel as a carpenter. Carpenters went in with the Health Physics team: we provided access (ladders, scaffolding, etc.). They mapped radiation levels. It wasn't much harder than usual, but it was very warm. The concrete and steel was ±130°F, the air temp about 10° cooler.

Take this quiz. Share it with the doubters you know. Apply "deep canvassing" techniques and ask people why they thought what they thought. No one wants to be told they've been had. Many people will come to that realization on their own.

Will be interesting to see what mental gymnastics self-proclaimed “originalist” Supreme Court Justices will use to argue that of the does not disqualify Trump from holding the office of U.S. president. Here’s an excellent amicus brief from leading experts on the history of the provision and how it was understood by people at the time of its adoption. https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/23/23-719/298999/20240129110006501_23-719%20bsac%20American%20Historians%20Final.pdf

Many leftists think criticizing anything and everything that happens, even unequivocally good news, is a sign of intelligence and some sort of cred, regardless of what the actual criticism is.

So whenever they see someone report a good thing about how stuff is going, they reflexively see an opportunity for an easy dunk. Some of the stupidest people online.

Monstrous decision that says women’s lives are not to be protected, even in the face of a medical emergency. Gun owners are fiercely protected in Texas. Women, not.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @davidaugust When I taught about systems of inequality in survey courses in Florida & North Carolina, some students (mostly "segregation academy" graduates) tried to make revisionist "Lost Cause" arguments. I never got that revisionism again. https://www.battlefields.org/learn/primary-sources/declaration-causes-seceding-states
