I used my real name on the bird site to keep me nice. It didn't work, but cishet male privilege meant I mostly got away with it, so I'm not too optimistic about being "nice" on here.

From NBC news:

Ohio has followed many other states; voters are not enamored of Republican politicians policing their uteruses.

Dems need to run hard on freedom to choose in 2024 at every level in every race, despite the fact that a good couple of media pundits keep claiming the power and importance of this issue is winding down or limited. It isn’t.

@TonyStark @Balkingpoints @Bam The oh-so-alternātive fake "left" always seem more adroit at attacking Democrats, though. Even today the GOP is feeding the social media discourse with "whataboutism" that tries to erase the work Democrats did to make those sweeps happen (even in local races in NC!). Sock puppets were easier to spot when they wore googly eyes.

Republicans are extorting Dems (& mod. Rs)🚨.

Senate Rs predicted Mon that Dems would be unable to pass fresh Ukraine aid w/o addressing their demands over the US border & immigration policies -increasing the odds of an impasse that could delay such assistance indefinitely.

Sen Thune called on Dems & the WH to negotiate on border policies, warning that his GOP colleagues are “dead serious about having border security in the bill.”

I have never had such a love/HATE relationship with any aspect of my job as the one I have with grading. I wouldn't say it's the WORST part of my job (that would be faculty meetings and administration/bureaucracy), but it's regularly terrible and tedious. It does have some bright spots though, so it's not all terrible.

JamesBazan,
@JamesBazan@mastodon.coffee avatar

@KFuentesGeorge I taught my students how to identify a structure for their answers in the structure of the questions. It was amazing the elegance they could build once they understood a scaffold supported them.

JamesBazan,
@JamesBazan@mastodon.coffee avatar

@Litzz11 about five years in, I found I was always complaining about students not reading the textbooks, much less the ancillary readings. I realized they didn't know how to use textbook "key points" and publisher-supplied outlines to streamline their reading. Later, as I moved towards increased transparency, I asked how their professors grade using checkmarks. We started workshopping a couple of exam questions before and after each exam to identify the key points that would be checked.

    Polls a year out from the election don’t tell us much, so I don’t put too much stock in them, or in the polling on much of anything lately. And there’s this, too: If a pollster tried to call me, they’d never get through. I don’t answer numbers I don’t recognize. Too many scams.

    Even if Mahalia Jackson, born 112 years ago today, had not been sitting behind Marin Luther King on August 26, 1963, the magnitude of her performances would’ve been unassailable. But on that day, the Queen of Gospel not only delivered a soul-stirring performance preceding Dr. King but an often overlooked moment underscores the preeminent role she played in shaping his most memorable speech.

She said "it was like a big church picnic, and a group from the deep south" (we were living in P.G. County, Md.) "took me in because I didn't have sense enough to bring food or water."

    Under existing gerrymanders in North Carolina, the GOP seized supermajorities in both houses of the General Assembly with 50.7% of the vote. Under the new maps, they will retain those supermajorities until the Democrats achieve 52% of the vote, at which point the GOP retains the supermajority in the Senate, but their grip on the House slips to a strong majority.

    NC is a 49/51 state. My district Representative, Jeff Jackson (NC 14) won with 57.7% of the vote. Behind closed doors, the NCGOP just redrew NC-14 to be R+15 by connecting the southeast suburbs of Charlotte to a district that wraps around Charlotte and extends west and north nearly to Tennessee.
    The GOP hates and fears representative democracy because they hate and fear the American people. They must know us.
