This is a short status update regarding #MakerTube, a #peertube site for for #makers, #musicians, #artists, #DIY folks and the like.

Currently there are 333 users that uploaded 3200 videos. Luckily my last prediction regarding storage utilization was too pessimistic. Currently one-third of the available storage is used. According to conservative estimates, it will last for another three months.

A wave of new users is coming to #MakerTube because of #youtube began rolling out ad-block blocker everywhere. That is lovely, a warm welcome!

This also means a lot more resources are needed to handle the load. People are importing their whole youtube catalog and I needed to bring up a serious amount of resources which cost time and money.

I only uploaded the last two videos so far, and the thumbnails are a bit grainy. But future videos will be on MakerTube, too, and in better quality, as they get the same exported files as YT.

Some technical updates regarding #MakerTube.

I updated the #peertube container image, the site is now running on Node 18, changes can be found here: https://github.com/polykit/PeerTube/tree/v5.2.1-polykit1

I'm now using block storage from the provider's cloud for database and local storage. This should bring improvement in terms of reliability.

I improved the monitoring stack which is a classic Prometheus/Grafana/Alertmanager setup.

There were two VMs added to the cluster for better Kubernetes API availability and are also used as runners for video processing.
