Our house martins are back, and this is the first morning we've heard their distinctive calls. Soon we'll be enjoying our first coffee on the terrace, watching them. Our flat is on the same level as their nests, which are currently occupied by sparrows. In previous years, they had been able to reclaim them. Here we go for the next few months, living to the rhythm of our house martins!

Yesterday I took part in a second day of citizens' deliberation organised by Real Deal (Brussels), this time with a feminist lens and the tools of the Women Engage for a Common Future team.

I wasn't able to attend the afternoon of proposals writing, but the morning of discussions and networking was fascinating and energising. It's so good to work on what brings us together, while drawing on our differences!

Pollen in Luxembourg, the birch count is frightening (as I'm allergic, it's not a great time at the moment).

Does anyone know anything about 'standard' pollen concentrations? Do trees release more pollen to increase* their chances of survival in a world in climate crisis?

Very pleased to have taken part in yesterday's European Citizens Deliberation Forum on the Green Transition, with interesting discussions with participants from 28 countries (24 EU member states).

Sharing our experience and knowledge at a European level is really important!

Self-organisation without governance remains difficult and not without limits (who speaks? to say what? for what purpose?).

It's really complicated to live in a world that can only have one meaning per concept. Analysing transport data is complicated for me (surveillance risks), but it's also useful for assessing collective needs. However, there are walkable cities that are already working on some of the principles of the 15-minute city. Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) has been around since the 1970s. And it's one of the towns where I see the most independent wheelchair users.

Today I joined my home town (Brussels) and the 20,000 participants in the Climate March, to sing, to be together, to remind everyone of the urgency of the climate in this time of COP28, the solutions that exist, and that the planet doesn't give a damn about pauses in climate action.

Photo taken during the Climate March in Brussels, with a banner reading in French and Dutch "It's time for revolution, enough marching, local action and global resistance".

The planet's limits as an annoying inconvenience to be removed.

"Frieden aims to empower the government to reach these targets without resorting to "unpopular measures." He has even instructed the new Minister for the Environment, Serge Wilmes, to talk to his civil servants to encourage them to "change their state of mind."."

"En même temps, il conviendra d’éviter que des procédures fastidieuses, des conditions excessives et une bureaucratie dissuasive n’entravent les progrès dans d'autres domaines importants. La politique de protection de la nature ne doit pas devenir une politique d’entrave que les citoyens considèrent comme arbitraire." (Programme de coalition CSV-DP, 2023)

"(1/4) However much one laments and even wishes somehow to atone for the loss of life and suffering visited upon innocents because of Palestinian violence, there is still the need, I think, also to say that no national movement has been so unfairly penalized, defamed, and sujected to disproportionate retaliation for its sins as has the Palestinian."

"I apologize to my library, filled with the memories of many years, because the Apache pilot only gave me a few minutes’ warning to save myself before they sentenced my small apartment to death.

My heart aches for my apartment, which I built brick by brick with my own hands. I painstakingly selected each material, each tile, treating them as companions that would accompany me through life." (Tawfiq Abu Shomer, writer in Gaza)

What are the evidence-based recommendations about booster after covid infection?

In Luxembourg, the vaccine is available from doctors and pharmacies, depending on demand. If I have to wait 3 months, it will be in January, when no-one will be looking for the vaccine. I read that the CDC says that the booster can be obtained as soon as recovery is complete. Any data/info on this?

Thank you!

On top of that, I caught covid for the first time since the start of the pandemic. So far, the symptoms are manageable, apart from the toothache, why didn't anyone warn me?

Elections in the country where I live and where I cannot vote. 10% of people voted for the far right and almost 30% for the Conservatives. The party leader boasts: "Voters opted for a different policy". Promising the impossible, refusing to see the reality of the climate crisis, increasing suffering and postponing solutions, really???
