@DrALJONES yes, of course. But the reason they were given veto power is because they had/have enough power independently to choose to NOT join the U.N. So removing their vetos will drive them@out of the U.N.
Maybe that is smart. Exposing them as hegemons not worthy of being followed.
Nonetheless they will not give it up. It has to be taken but risks making the U.N. less viable than the League of Nations
A bit ironic given this is disseminated over the Internet...
The Internet would be far better if giant corporations didn't control platforms & endlessly surveille & profile & do so very unequally--to me that largely is a capitalism, governance & regulatory failure--power & control of infrastructure.
I just have to add that I am in Argentina at the moment and I am very impressed with them. They have extraordinary difficulties in their country and they seem to be happy, eager to please and grateful for the little they have. No hate here. I feel at peace. Noted
In this video, #VladVexler spends over half an hour talking about and around (but mostly around) the issue of whether "from the river to the sea" implies genocide or at least ethnic cleansing.
His conclusion is that it does sometimes but not other times and it depends who's saying it, sometimes, which isn't really a conclusion. He suggests that, due to this ambiguity, it's a poor choice, regardless.
He wasn't the main speaker that day, Edward Everett was. He spoke for 2 hours about the significance of the battle. Lincoln's address was only 10 sentences and he delivered it so quickly there are no photographs of him speaking.
Interestingly, the speech itself speaks to the insignificance of anything he could say that day.
IBM says it has "zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination" and has "immediately suspended" all advertising on #X following a report that the platform ran IBM ads alongside pro-Nazi material. #Twitter
@morgfair this is all intentional. Netanyahu probably got an erection when he learned of the Hamas attack. It gives him ALL the room he wants to just eliminate as many Palestinians as he can - either as refugees fleeing or bodies for burial. He does not seem to care. He is a beast. Similar to W Bush getting revenge on Iraq for trying to assasinate his dad H W Bush. Beasts
@TexasObserver bless you but I cannot fathom it. It has become so terribly vile over the last 10 years as to be unrecognizable. Don’t be the frog in the simmering pan if you can help it. I feel it is going to get a lot lot worse before any corners are turned.
"US congress member intentionally installs paid spyware on own devices to make sure he doesn't jack off" is one of those headlines I did not ever expect, yet now that I have seen it...I am stunned it didn't happen decades ago already.
""It scans all the activity on your phone, or your devices, your laptop, what have you," Johnson said of the service, which currently costs $17 a month."
@mariyadelano and Israel can clearly handle their opponent - who is much smaller and less powerful. Ukraine/Russia - Hamas/israel - not saying Ukraine is evil as Hamas clearly is but Ukraine has been fighting above their weight. Israel is punching down
@dnc I am truly apologetic for mentioning this but my first take on the photo (with my old fuzzy eyes) was that there was a roach where the nuts are!!! It DID get my attention
Do you think the end of the Fairness Doctrine played any part at all [in the rise of disinformation.]
I think the repeal of the fairness doctrine was part of the move toward partisan media (Reagan removed it and then right wing radio took off) so it's easy to think one caused the other and that restoring the Fairness Doctrine would help.
I don't think the Fairness Doctrine would solve the problems we have.
I don't think removing it caused the problems . . .
We can't let these fuckers keep recycling their fascist/white supremacist bullshit, time and time again. This has to end. Power has to be taken away. NO BILLIONAIRES. NO 1%.
@StillIRise1963 I was not really looking for a dialogue and made a very minor, snarky statement in good fun/intention and you got bent out of shape and I mirrored you back at you and you got more bent. I apologize but you should loosen up
Tomorrow, The Dutch will have 12 hours with a negative (day ahead) electricity price, and a couple of hours with a price equal to zero.
This is caused by a high production of wind energy in NW-Europe, combined with a relative low ('Sunday') power demand.
Although to a lesser extend, neighbouring countries witness as well a significant number of hours with negative power prices.
I expect, this phenomenon will increase significantly in coming years. Agree?
