When journalism thinks its value is intrinsic in the commodity, content, rather than in service, education, and collaboration:

The New York Times sued Microsoft and OpenAI for alleged copyright infringement

@jeffjarvis I completely disagree. They deserve to profit from the content they pay to create. Microsoft does not. Period

@DrALJONES yes, of course. But the reason they were given veto power is because they had/have enough power independently to choose to NOT join the U.N. So removing their vetos will drive them@out of the U.N.

Maybe that is smart. Exposing them as hegemons not worthy of being followed.

Nonetheless they will not give it up. It has to be taken but risks making the U.N. less viable than the League of Nations

A bit ironic given this is disseminated over the Internet...

The Internet would be far better if giant corporations didn't control platforms & endlessly surveille & profile & do so very unequally--to me that largely is a capitalism, governance & regulatory failure--power & control of infrastructure.

He wasn't the main speaker that day, Edward Everett was. He spoke for 2 hours about the significance of the battle. Lincoln's address was only 10 sentences and he delivered it so quickly there are no photographs of him speaking.

    "The Laptop That Wouldn't Die"

In a few of my blog posts on right-to-repair culture, I've mentioned my 12-year-old Thinkpad T420

    It is: indestructible

My six-year-old Macbook Pro just died, so I'm using the thinkpad while I await a replacement

This Thinkpad has outlived two of my top of the line Macbooks

It was built when my eldest son was six ... he's now in college

    And it's still going

    Answering a question:

Do you think the end of the Fairness Doctrine played any part at all [in the rise of disinformation.]

I think the repeal of the fairness doctrine was part of the move toward partisan media (Reagan removed it and then right wing radio took off) so it's easy to think one caused the other and that restoring the Fairness Doctrine would help.

I don't think the Fairness Doctrine would solve the problems we have.

Tomorrow, The Dutch will have 12 hours with a negative (day ahead) electricity price, and a couple of hours with a price equal to zero.
This is caused by a high production of wind energy in NW-Europe, combined with a relative low ('Sunday') power demand.

Although to a lesser extend, neighbouring countries witness as well a significant number of hours with negative power prices.

I expect, this phenomenon will increase significantly in coming years. Agree?
