This feels like an admission that the success of Hamas’ attack on wasn’t due as much to brilliance or Russian/Iranian skullduggery as the utter incompetence of ’s right-wing government and cabinet. Bibi’s chucklefucks wouldn’t be able to handle the aftermath either.

I’d like to think that this unity government might provide some chance of relief for people too but I’m not too sure.

I can’t believe I see people on here making the same arguments in favor of a ban that I used to see on Reddit.

This is all Yellow Peril stuff ginned up by a lobbying campaign. TikTok is ’s biggest competitor.

And it won’t even fix China having access to your data if that’s what you’re worried about!

Predictably, started injecting ads into powered conversations…and just as predictably, there is now a huge problem in Bing Chat.

It’s actually worse than poisoned advertisements showing up in search engine results for a couple of reasons.

So for people who may have been wondering “what the hell?” with regards to statements and positions on the attacks on and on more generally (because I’m certainly one of those people), this article provides a very clear explanation.

DSA’s success and growth in recent years made it a target for infiltration and co-opting by militant burn-it-all-down types, basically.

So many people on here are like “it’s better if is owned by an American company and not China” but @GottaLaff knows what’s up, the idea is to put it in the hands of some right-winger who will do what they accuse China of doing or who will do to it what Elon Musk did to Twitter. https://mastodon.social/@GottaLaff/112094226896024088

I guess this is “Misuse Case shares her hot takes about politics” day.

“We are getting only incremental changes when we need radical changes” is something I hear often.

“Incremental change is good though,” is something I also hear a lot.

These are both wrong. We are getting a lot of radical change but it isn’t what most of the people saying these things are looking for (or the full effects won’t be obvious until later).

For all of my adult life I have been strongly opposed to and similar organizations equating criticism of with not only because it’s disingenuous but because it’s dangerous. It has the effect of “crying wolf” so that real acts of harassment and violence aren’t taken seriously. It’s also a funhouse mirror version of the “dual loyalty” trope that makes it harder to distinguish between the position of Israel’s government and the diaspora.

sigh

Biden offering to work with Trump to come up with an immigration/border security bill is not serious and he knows Trump won’t take him up on it.

Nor is he “playing Trump” as such.

Okay, so what is this about?

In any discussion of degrowth there will be at least one white man who brings up “overpopulation” as if degrowth isn’t about letting us all live on the planet with a sustainable ecological footprint.

Then the white man gets mad when you (well, I) bring up the fact that his line of thinking naturally leads to doing at least one U.N. definition of genocide.

(Yes it is pretty much always a white man.)

Reading more of that biography of Frederick Douglass.

When the Republican Party was first established and became a going concern in the 1850s, it wasn’t committed to the abolition of slavery, but it did want to stop/limit the expansion of slavery in newly established states.

There were other explicitly abolitionist American political parties, but they were kind of fringe parties.

Certain people are having certain inside thoughts about the situation in Israel and Gaza right now that I guess it’s understandable to have but they should know better than to say them in an outside voice in polite company, let alone in a public forum.

One of the problems with something like Mastodon is that people get to thinking they can and should say whatever crosses their mind. Whoops!

I’m seeing these articles about Elon Musk boosting comments on and it kind of reinforces my suspicion that a lot of the surging going on because of what’s happening in is not necessarily coming from people advocating for a or for (no doubt some of it is).

A lot of the antisemitism is coming from folks who hate people for other reasons and feel free to show their asses now.

Playing as an isolationist empire doing Inward Perfection, I somehow managed to become Galactic Custodian and leader of the League of Non-Aligned Powers in the War in Heaven anyway. This was all possible because I got the OP diplomatic Paragon leader towards the late mid game.

(You either know what this is or you don’t.)

It’s not really useful to talk about and robot overlords when discussing the dangers of because that’s not what we have to worry about, at least not for a while yet.

It is much more useful to talk about the concept of which is when systems codified by law and regulation squeeze people into destitution and death. See also “social murder.”

Someone made a good point on our Synagogue listserve:

“To the extent that we decide we must hold allegiance to the term Zionist as a litmus test in Judaism, I wonder if we might inadvertently be communicating to young adults that their sorrow and anger around Israeli policy might mean there is no longer a place in Judaism for them.”

It looks like and might actually reach a deal soon with the hostages getting released and many prisoners getting released also!

Hopefully it works out and both sides stick to the terms of the agreement.

I have been seeing people bringing up their grudges about “what the DNC did to Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primaries” and I have a very unpopular take on this.

Bernie caucuses with the Democrats but he’s an independent who didn’t do his time and pay his dues in the party. Of course they were not happy about him going into their primaries. I’m sure he expected the reaction he got from them, why didn’t you?

It looks like the IDF killed three escaped or abandoned hostages who were waving white flags at them “against the IDF rules of engagement” (yeah, sure, right).

This demonstrates the operation in is more about killing than anything else, or it wouldn’t have happened this way. Like, the soldiers are indiscriminately milking people even if they have their hands up and white flags because they’ve been told to.

I am not optimistic about the state of most of the American anti-war or anti-militarism movement (if you can even call it such) because it consists of opposition, protesting, and disengagement with the political process when war breaks out, and that really doesn’t work.

The movement has to engage with politics consistently to turn the country away from war and imperialism.

Oh great someone posted a thing about how “ADHD and autism are only disorders in a capitalist society” again.

Speaking as a person with I say unto you all that this take needs to die. I can’t speak for people but ADHD is difficult in a lot of ways that would still be difficult in, like, a post-scarcity space socialist paradise or whatever!

I got called a genocide supporter for pointing out that:

  • The U.S. demanding a ceasefire doesn’t mean that Israel will agree (which doesn’t necessarily mean our government shouldn’t and certainly doesn’t mean y’all shouldn’t)

  • If Biden says something like “you stop that right now or we will withdraw all aid and military support and sever diplomatic ties” Iran will go to war with Israel which would be even worse than the horrible things going on now

Jonathan Greenblatt of the ’s first comment about anything related (today, 11/17) since Elon Musk boosted a comment saying Jews are anti-white is not anything about that but something praising him for policing pro-Palestinian statements on the platform. There’s absolutely no mention of Musk promoting a version of the conspiracy theory that motivated the Tree of Life synagogue mass shooting.

Very frustrated but also genuinely concerned about leftists who reflexively perceive power making small but concrete concessions to their demands as fake, performative, deceptive, meaningless, etc.

Not because small concessions should be sufficient, but because it’s reactionary and demobilizing to dismiss the results of your own work and the work of others that way.

/1

“Throw out anyone talking about violence (AKA entryists)” is good advice for any leftist movement that’s not focused on violence. (If your movement is like that, I’m not opening that can of worms today.)

Violence is different from disruptive protest tactics of course.

Entryists destroy thriving movements and organizations, but they’re also bad for situations where you need movement discipline, which is a lot of them.
