Billionaire wealth isn't a sign of a healthy society. It's a symptom of rot. The accumulation of wealth in the hands of the few while millions struggle is an imbalance that demands attention, not admiration.

Current events and history itself tells us two important outcomes of the condition you have cited:

  1. When governments and weapons makers treasure the economic windfalls in collective military industrial technology and refuse to negotiate, then political and military values on both sides of a world conflict collide.

Soldiers and civilians then die.

  1. Continuation of the economic disparate imbalance eventually results in revolution.

Blue Jay

Here is a photo of a blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) that I took in October 2023. I haven't seen any of these birds in a few weeks, I know that they are still around though. Perhaps they are deeper in the forest. My guess I'll see them more when it starts getting really cold, especially it snows. Yes, it occasionally snows in Louisiana.

"The oldest known wild, banded Blue Jay was at least 26 years, 11 months old when it was found dead after being caught in fishing gear. It had been banded in the Newfoundland/Labrador/St. Pierre et Miquelon area in 1989 and was found there in 2016." - allaboutbirds.org

Just as I’m finding a majority of people 18-29 get their news from TikTok…

That TikTok is making sympathy for Osama bin Laden trend

Even Arafat disavowed bin Laden. That man is garbage and the ocean is still mad at us for throwing our trash there

TikTok is cancer.

As a veteran, I could not agree more. Voters have a lot on their plate in the immediate future.

On Veterans Day, our active duty military soldiers are the best in the world to defend us if war occurs. They cannot defend against the financial influence and political weight of the largest military industrial complex in world history. Managing that threat is the voters job.

I find it very difficult to post these days. The ways in which the U.S. is already dangerous and likely to become more so much on display. The dangers - authoritarianism, racism, misogyny, other forms of bigotry, gun violence and more - are not new but they are acute and vivid. It is easy to feel muffled by fear, alarm, and concern. We have to try to resist the smothering of our voices, to keep using them to call out threats, to ask for help and change, to fight for safety and justice.

It shouldn’t need saying that any path that runs through murdered kids (anyone’s kids) and grandmas (anyone’s grandmas) isn’t leading to a better world.

Or that the hatred of Jewish people for their Jewishness is so real and terrifying and dangerous.

Or that Palestinians deserve the same freedom to make a good life as everyone else.

Or that every atrocity is wrong and worth trying to prevent.

I feel so choked with grief but when these ideas are controversial it feels necessary to speak.

We are, as a species, going down a path to the next, necessary, evolutionary leap to survive. Let us hope we are capable of making the jump and that the souls that depart along the way will look back from their next spiritual home and feel it was worth it.

The Maine fucker was a firearms instructor and in the Army Reserve. Being both trained with firearms and in the military, he fits the stereotype of a "good guy with a gun". Somehow, despite this history, he decided to end the lives of dozens of innocent, unarmed people including children.

Will conservatives continue the flawed narrative of the "good guy with a gun"? Will they say all bowling alleys need armed guards?

"Nothing we can do about this, says only place where this regularly happens."

Defective pricing, false claims, FCPA violations and many others are standard occurrences for the major government contractors. They lawyer up, go to court, sometimes for many years and then at some point pay fine but never plead guilty as a corporation or as individuals. While in court and after paying the fine the government continues to award them huge contracts. I know - I worked for the big 5 defense contractors for 36 years.
