There's been a lot of death wishes during the past few days towards multiple people.
But here's what gets me. Out of my own pocket, I'm providing a #Calckey server for people who want defederation from Meta. I already bought a domain, and am setting it all up as we speak.
Are those extremists who are uttering death wishes doing anything tangible besides wishing death upon those who disagree? Are they providing servers that are pre-emptively defederated from Meta? Are they providing any infrastructure for a Meta-free Fediverse?
As more and more instances are providing multiple services under the same management, we need a term to talk about this type of arrangement. A Fediverse Galaxy is a collection of federated software that is provided by the same admin or collective.

Another thing that has to be adresse:
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by the EU will have to be follow by a big Corp like Facebook. How does this interact with AP and the rest of the fedivers ? Will there be GDPR Compliant "Galaxys" and how do they federate with servers in the US or other parts of the World?
"Big admins" complaining about the community being pissed at them for meeting with meta under NDA is their fault and their fault only. Some admin blocking mastodon.art for being vocal about this is bullcrap. If you could not anticipate the fact that bragging on Mastodon about having a secret private meeting with Meta would spark anger, that's on you. Isn't the first rule of NDA "do not talk about NDA", by the way ?
Meta has no good intentions, they don't plan on "playing nice" with smaller actors. Thinking otherwise is very naive. They plan on nipping potential competitors in the bud and make a profit. If they cared about anything else than big players and their user base and wanted to embrace the Fediverse as a concept, they would not discuss their plans only with big actors behing closed doors would they? They're trying to "join" a community that identifies as a healthy alternative to them and start with an NDA. What. Could. Go. Wrong.
Meta is the company that allowed meddling with elections. They're the company that slowly removed from your timeline everything you loved to replace it with things they think you would be stupid enough to click on. They're a company that followed suit with Musk's "premium verification" concept to propose a similar product. There is NO REASON to trust meta and "wait and see". We ALREADY KNOW that Meta is evil and have had proof over and over.
How arrogant do you have to be to think that once you allowed a company like Meta in your garden, you could reverse everything and undo any harm they're doing with "just 2 clicks" (sic) ? This is hubris.
Block Meta. "Big admins", in their arrogance, are playing a very dangerous game for all of us and they did not consult the community before doing so, which is kind of telling as well.
Let’s be fair. While I totally get the mistrust of #Meta but this uproar is for what? People having a meeting? Companies have people sign NDA for the smallest of things. Remember #Meta has never come out with any details regarding their project. They’ve only publicly verified they’ve been working on a text based project. All known information has been leaked information. By inside influencers & the most recent leak was a meeting by a #Meta employee. From Meta’s stance they have no released ANY public information regarding #P92 thus it absolutely makes sense to have NDA signed #fediverse#mastodon#pixelfed
Whoops! Turn out I spread some Misinfo about Lemmy. It's still developed by NazBols and you definitely should stick to kbin if at all possible, but the post I quoted was from someone who hated the very concept of federation. #lemmy#kbin#raddle
Recently saw many posts with confusions. How #lemmy, #kbin works? Which #mastodon instance to choose? If everything is decentralised then why do we need separate accounts for every project? How to post from one project to another? etc etc. Yes it’s confusing for me too. I am learning too. But just think, isn’t internet supposed to be like this, a confusing mesh? Once corporations started making it ‘streamlined’ the problem started. We should just focus on finding out our thing from this mesh!
