If you use Linux and feel let down by AI taking over your browser and the lack of easy customization options available, Sean Davis
@bluesabre tells you why our powerful browser is worth your attention.

Read all about it as Sean explains what it means to be a Chromium browser, shares his favorite features, and talks about our Linux Community and all the wonderful people behind making Vivaldi what it is today. 👇🏻

I liked the old 'Opera' so much that it was also developed for Linux right from the start.

When Opera was then sold to a Chinese company and Vivaldi was launched, Vivaldi was of course mine.

Our built-in Calendar tool is like a personal assistant, but less judgy. 😏

@Vivaldi @toran
Too bad

Having some of the vivaldi features (calendar/mail/RSS and notes) as separate, installable programs and apps, with sync and all of that, would be a great idea

Especially notes would be great to have on mobile, where many people (cough @thelinuxcast cough) have a hard time finding a decent note-taking software with good sync

Could also make it easier for you to make more parts open source

If you made mail/RSS/calendar available standalone, it could honestly rival thunderbird
(Which is cool for such a young feature)

It could make it slightly easier to migrate, and could make it easier to introduce people to vivaldi, without making it necessary for people to switch browsers if they "don't like change" (even though it's easy to make vivaldi look "just like chrome")

Of course I don't think you should remove those features from the browser itself (no one wants what happened to Firefox/thunderbird to happen to vivaldi)

@erilun06 I've actually started to really like the combination of Joplin for everyday notes and Obsidian for longer more involved things.

I think it's really great that @Vivaldi is doing the mastodon thing, it shows that vivaldi is "all about the community"

It also helps with getting in touch with the team and even the CEO, the incredible @jon

I also enjoy accounts like @tips , that are tooting tips about this great software each day

@Vivaldi is also a great way to get information about updates, and you can also discuss new features

Vivaldi, to microsoft

Is Microsoft's new feature a privacy nightmare?

Microsoft recently announced ‘Recall’, a feature that lets Windows users to search for content across time on their PCs.

According to Microsoft, Recall takes screenshots every five seconds, which are then stored locally.

However, it's unclear if these will be used for model training, cloud backups, or online analysis.

Our developer and privacy expert, Tarquin Wilton-Jones, shares his take with @theregister ⬇️

https://www.theregister.com/2024/05/22/windows_recall/

What do you think about this feature? Tell us in the comments section 👇

@Vivaldi @xdadevelopers I still need to try out Arc, but it seems big on sidebars. And I do not like sidebars.
Except for Opera, the others are still installed on my old laptop.
I like trying out different browsers, and currently I'm using Floorp :)

ThankGodItsFriday,

@Vivaldi @xdadevelopers I've tried to go to XDA, but I'm annoyed by their "Please disable ad blocking" full web page notice.

I'm surprised that a browser like yours would recommend a place that requires intrusive advertisements to work, knowing how much you guys hate intrusive adverts.

I'm Autistic and ADHD and vivaldi is literally irreplaceable to me

(Automatic) Tab groups, workspaces and page tilling are amazing

I'm required to use Firefox (or edge 🤮) at work and I can't stand it (I can't install add-ons), it quite literally puts itself in my way

@beardedtechguy Vivaldi has done a spectacular job just locking me into their browser. I use it for so much I don't even know where I'd begin with a different one. Another example is the Panel. As an admin of an instance, I spend a LOT of time here on Mastodon, and I'm constantly looking stuff up and taking notes. Something that I'm sure has been there forever and I never noticed is the ability to drag text from the active tab to a panel. Works AMAZINGLY for notes and translating.

📋ADHDers love curating Reading Lists to stay on track.

🫣Going back to them, though, is another story.

Have you tried giving yourself little rewards when you check off read items from the list? Because they totally count as mini victories! 🥳

It's true that neurodivergent minds are energized and motivated when they set and execute goals, gain achievements, communicate, create, strategize, innovate, or serve and connect with people.

But the constant whirlwind of killer ideas and endless possibilities, without the reigns of process, structure, and execution, can get debilitating.

🧰 To help you crush those distractions, we've curated a list of helpful tools available for you to use on our browser.

Building systems and leveraging productivity tools can set you up for success and manage your scattered thoughts.

Our built-in Reading List is one such example, read the blog for more👇

@Vivaldi The built in reading list is an amazing feature. Recently you've added the ability to share links directly to the reading list, which is a fantastic addition. I love being able to add a link from any app (usually my feed reader) on my phone easily to the reading list and just pick it up and read it next time I'm on my computer or tablet.

🎉 Exciting news for our Android folks!

On the latest update on Vivaldi 6.7, we've amped up Translate, improved the Tracker and Ad blocker functionality, tweaked the Bookmarks manager, and many other features based on YOUR feedback.

🔖 We understand that Bookmarks are one of the most important aspects of your browsing. Now, Vivaldi remembers the last folder you opened in the Bookmarks Panel. We've also tidied up your bookmarks by sorting folders first, making navigation a breeze.

⚙️ We work with Lingvanex continuously to make the built-in Vivaldi Translate more efficient. With an improved performance and the quality of translations, we hope you'll find speedy results.

In addition to the above, we’ve polished the user interface and made improvements to features across the board.

Find out what they are and enjoy browsing with more of these powerful browser features👇🏻
