@Vivaldi@robertlogger there was a good reason for me to ditch googles free Gmail for a subscription on a 'local' server.
We have to get used to pay for the things we want to use. Basically there is no free ride in the world. Everything we use has a price. We have to choose how we want to pay..
End of last year we launched our own #Mastodon server Vivaldi Social, becoming the first #browser company to step into the decentralized world of the #fediverse.
Our goal was to offer better #alternatives for people to communicate in an algorithm-free environment with no surveillance capitalism, devoid of tracking or #dataprofiling.
I was delighted way back when I first saw the blog news in my vivaldi browser that you folks were setting up a mastodon instance and that vivaldi users could log in using their vivaldi account. I've been loving it ever since. Good on you!
On this day one year ago we opened our #Mastodon instance, #VivaldiSocial. The first browser company to do so. 🎉
We believe a distributed, open standards, non-tracking #SocialNetwork is a better solution than the current popular social networks which build massive profiles on users and contribute to division and hate.
We’re happy to be part of the #Fediverse and are grateful that more than 40 000 people have chosen Vivaldi Social as their home. 🏠
There's a lot of talk about social media these days: #Twitter restrictions and changes, #Meta#Facebook launching #Threads.
And there's #Mastodon which is open & decentralized. That's why we became the first browser to have our own server here - #VivaldiSocial.
Vivaldi Social has no ads and your behavior is not tracked or analyzed for vested interests. It is all about what you like, who you want to follow and interact with. You have control. :tony_happy:
Vivaldi CEO Jon von Tetzchner talks about this and more, tomorrow, at Tech Open Air, Berlin. #TOA23.
We will share a live-streaming link for you too. So stay tuned!
I have no idea of how many minutes I SPENT. That's nothing I really track myself FUNNY ENOUGH.
Sure, I have visited a few websites, but I don't remember most of them.
Some of the features I really enjoy in Vivaldi are that I can have a web panel to access my Proton Mail and have two tabs open in the same window. I also love that Tab Syncing and everything else for Vivaldi browser settings are end to end encrypted.
If you're looking for alternatives to Chrome in terms of which browsers to use on Android, Talk Android has compiled this nifty list of the latest and greatest browsers you can switch to.
✍🏾 The tech writer and journalist, Irene O., talks about how she used our highly customizable Vivaldi browser and its features, like tab stacking, and the built-in Notes and Translator.
📝 It's nice to see writers and journalists alike share their appreciation for Notes, a noteworthy tool built right into the browser. This way, there's no need to switch between apps to jot down quick notes or to add text to an existing note.
📲 It even syncs across devices making it effortless to carry all important notes on your desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Unlike other browsers and apps these days, it doesn't feel right to bundle an #LLM solution to our #browser. Why not? It has fundamental issues. Read all about what they are by our developer @julien_picalausa#Privacy#AI
@Vivaldi Glad to hear you're not going down that path. There are things I'd much rather see integrated into #Vivaldi than an LLM, such as a text to speech engine.
🔊 You have been asking for it, so we made it happen! You can now adjust the volume level right from the Pop-out Video!
🗓️ Vivaldi Calendar now has templates, which make creating events much quicker! Add a template for birthdays, doctor appointments, job meetings...or anything else!
It was a dream of ours since the beginning, and now our #browser is finally available on all major platforms. We couldn't be happier! 😍
Whether you are on #desktop, #Android, #iOS, or even in a car, we’ve got you covered!
Sync your Bookmarks, Passwords, typed History, open Tabs, Reading List, and Notes for an even smoother browsing experience. ✨
@Vivaldi Congrats! Am loving the way Vivialdi manages bookmarks and downloads. Still have problems clicking on and then accidentally closing browser tabs though. Maybe latest update will solve this niggling little issue. Hope so. Keep up the great work but please don't go feature mad! 🙂
Enjoy a faster Vivaldi after a massive #code refactoring 🎉
Our new version on #desktop is now faster, especially when you open a new window⚡️
By rendering browser windows through React portals, we’ve reduced #memory usage, and significantly improved overall #performance.
Whether you use #Shortcuts, Menus, or Quick Commands, the portal-aware functionality ensures a noticeable increase in #speed when opening a new window 🏃
