I practice Tai Chi. If I need to protect myself and I don't have a Tai Chi sword, I will use a machete or a katana or a broadsword. Whatever it takes to get the job done. If I have to use something different to save my life, that doesn't mean thay I'm not a Tai Chi student anymore.
What I'm trying to say is - just because you have to go vote to save your friends from being killed by the nazis, that doesn''t mean aren't an anarchist anymore. It just means that you had to use a different tool to do a certain job.
Am I making sense?

@Radical_EgoCom I used to believe that, but as I got more experience dealing with different situations, I came to realize that a hammer is not the best tool to fix a watch. If you don't use every tool in the toolbox, you are tying your hands together.

They have something akin to a script. It goes something like this-
Aunt Karen produces a piece of misinformation.
You say "that's misinformation"
Aunt Karen says 12 or 15 things that would take you all day to debunk.
You say, "I don't have time to tell you how many things are wrong wth that, but you're wrong and I don't want to hear it"
Aunt Karen "YOu're Censoring me!"
I call it a script because it is so predictable, but that is their vulnerability. It's your job to be unpredictable to break their script so that they can't use it.

My family split in half along party lines. If I knew then what I know now I might have been able to forestall it. It is possible to change minds, but neither side is very good at it. But our advantage is that can learn knew ways to do things, like Deep Canvassing, Street Epistemology, and Attitude Inoculation. It may be too late for your parents, but maybe you can help cousins or neices to not go down the same path.

I agree. I think we have a better chance of removing him than we have of expanding the court. That's not to say that we shouldn't try to expand the court, just that I don't think it's likely to happen.

It sucks that this guy was killed, but his death was completely preventable, and a consequence of his arrogance and hubris. The people of North Sentinel Island are completely isolated from the rest of the world, by choice. They've never been exposed to the diseases of the world, and they don't tolerate visitors to their land. This guy put the entire tribe at risk of death, just so he could proselytize and impose his religion on them. His death was an act of self-defense.

@BlackAzizAnansi Perhaps it's only a small comfort, but it didn't happen overnight. It started with Reagan and Newt, and it's taken them almost 40 years to pull the wool over America's eyes.
But as thorough as the brainwashing has been, it's still tenuous. It needs constant reinforcement or else the people start thinking for themselves. If you can get Uncle Frank away from the TV and Facebook, and show him different lands and different cultures, all of that blind ignorance may just fade away.
The churches know this. That's why they were against the quarantines. It wasn't the money; they get money either way. They didn't want folks to stay away for too long, because they will start to think for themselves .

    @idoubtit I planted some of those, but they aren't blooming at the moment. I am replacing my grass with short wildflowers. In the spring I scattered a half pound of Low Grow Native Wildflower Mix seeds in my lawn. Eventually I want a yard the stays green all year, never needs watering, and rarely needs mowing.
