All, something to be aware of this morning - Biden's trailing Trump in five key states in a new NYT/Siena Research poll.

https://t.co/YDLKlKUbS3

Please consider this a reminder as a lateral move - if you haven't already, adopt a Senator, adopt a House member, and get involved this cycle.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@mpjgregoire @Celeste_pewter

That won't happen, nor should it happen. Attempting to appease unreality pushers is an impossible task.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@mpjgregoire @Celeste_pewter

My point is, the notion that someone would let Trump win, thereby ending American democracy, just because Biden is three years older, is batshit crazy. Anyone who's so detached from reality that they're vulnerable to such low-quality propaganda would be equally swayed by any other bullshit.

They'd refuse to vote for Gavin Newsom because he styles his hair with yak mucus. Kamala Harris wouldn't deserve their vote because she secretly adopted a space alien baby.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@mpjgregoire @Celeste_pewter

I'm very worried too. But the thing that worries me is the fact that most Americans are now deeply insane and unable to comprehend reality. For that, we can blame garbage pseudojournalism like that ABC News article, which forcibly drags people away from sanity.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@mpjgregoire

In 2016, the Kremlin-GOP propaganda team convinced the entire American political press, even MSNBC, to push the lie that Hillary Clinton had some secret horrible mystery disease. I watched the debates terrified that she might emit a single tiny sneeze, and thereby cause a fascist revolution.

The solution was not to give Hillary an antihistamine. The solution was to somehow drag Americans back to reality.

No? Not a problem? The whole thing is 100% just a big right-wing conspiracy? Okay.

I'm just saying, this is the Republican Party you're working for: "There are very few innocent Palestinian citizens... we should kill them all... like Hiroshima and Nagasaki... gotta finish the problem."

Obviously you're free to do that. But two million Gazans, and thousands of American protesters who care about them, really wish you wouldn't.

So do the 10 million Latinos who Trump promises to send to concentration camps in Texas.

barney,

@thepoliticalcat

No, the nuclear bomb comment came from Rep. Walberg (R-MI). Trump only endorsed bombing Gaza into oblivion.

As president, Trump abruptly stopped all US aid to Palestine, not in response to anything, just because he hates them. He plans to ban Muslim immigration (again), and the GOP is trying to deport all Palestinians now in the US. Kushner wants to forcibly remove all Gazans from Gaza.

The pro-fascist leftists in this thread are hurting the people they claim to care about.

In July 2022, the price of a used Tesla Model Y (2021 model year) was $71,000. Today, it’s $32,000, reports Edmunds. Most remarkably, a used Tesla Model 3 is now cheaper than the average used gasoline vehicle.

Because of sophisticated cooling hardware and management software, most batteries are expected to outlive their car. Replacing the battery is unlikely to pay the full price of $6,500 to $20,000 cost. Warranty policies generally cover batteries when they fall below 75% of original capacity

I might say, if you aren't helping Joe Biden get reelected, then you're not necessarily a climate science denier -- but you're saying that you don't care whether or not climate change is addressed, and you don't give a shit about what happens to our planet.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@GreenFire

I think explicitly not caring about climate change is even worse than being a climate science denier. Or, at least, it's a more hateful and offensive position to take publicly.

Because, the Sunrise Movement types of the pro-fascist left are saying, out loud, "I know that climate change will soon cause catastrophic suffering, poverty and starvation and death all over the world, especially for the world's poorest people. But f*ck those people. I don't care what happens to them."

I fear that won't be the case. The emerging pattern is that the world's right-wing extremist strongmen are allied with each other, and against their own and each other's countries.

I'm reminded of May 2017, when Erdoğan ordered his thugs to brutally beat innocent Americans, on American soil, in broad daylight, in the middle of Washington. Erdoğan did that with Trump's blessing, and, no doubt, with Trump's admiration.

America is not a democracy—powerful politicians and their family members are above the law. In South Korea, if the son-in-law of the President had done what Jared Kushner did, both Kushner and Trump would be in jail right now. The US politics is the most corrupt of all wealthy democracies by far. Much worse than Italy and Japan.

I think you're stated an accurate and important observation, but in a form that is counterproductive.

The problem is not that US democracy is corrupt. The problem is that the US is currently at war against an enemy power, i.e. the Republican Party, which has conquered our country to an extent that our laws cannot be enforced against it.

I checked Google Maps. It's about 1,000 feet.

The New York Stock Exchange, where these Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists were "protesting" last week, is about 1,000 feet from where similar terrorists brought down the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Do you remember the 9/11 attacks? Do you remember anyone saying they were "heroic" or "exhilarating"?

Here are so-called "protesters" in Manhattan last week, with a Hezbollah flag and a Hamas headband.

Everyone who's saying "peaceful protesters!" and "it's not !" needs to STFU for a minute.

Hamas and Hezbollah are antisemitic terrorist groups. In 1994, Hezbollah drove a car bomb into a Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, killing 85 people and wounding 300 more.

If you think killing every Jew in the world is "resistance," you're a sick piece of shit.

As your resident Free Speech Bro™, I am bothered by this whole TikTok ban. It is definitely Bad™. I think the more immediate problem will be the alienation of young voters. We can argue endlessly that "they should care more about the country than a dumb app". Put on your pragmatist hat for a minute. Some people will lose the will to vote over their feelings on this. I'd argue we need the Democrats to make more practical choices if this really is the election to end all elections.

barney,

@wagesj45

It's not a TikTok ban, it's a requirement that ByteDance divest from the company within 9 months.

If "some people" are so detached from reality that they would condemn millions of women to potentially lethal medical atrocities, and send ten million Latinos to concentration camps, just because one of the two parties that supported the TikTok bill is the Democratic Party, then we have a very big problem. And the problem is not the TikTok bill.

I think there may be some confusion here. Barr did state his conclusion that Epstein's death was suicide, enabled by a series of "screw-ups" like malfunctioning cameras, the transfer of his cellmate, etc. There was also a false conspiracy theory that Barr had secretly visited Epstein in his cell prior to Epstein's death, suggesting that Barr might have ordered Epstein's murder. There was no such visit.

I'm posting this screenshot of Steve Herman's post, because the article itself is in Hebrew.

As soon as Israel holds elections, Netanyahu will be voted out of office, and I think he'll go to prison. He needs a big war, to stop the demonstrations and prevent elections. I think that's why he attacked Iran's consulate in Damascus in the first place, no? He was deliberately attempting to incite a major war. Escalation is his only move.

Unfortunately, I think most of America's intelligence and national security communities are no longer loyal to the United States. That's certainly true of virtually all of the FBI; they're loyal to the Republican Party now, and would gladly go to war against the United States on the GOP's behalf.

In retrospect, once we allowed Putin to conquer the White House, and then imposed zero consequences on his co-conspirators, there was never going to be an easy path back to sovereignty.
