Are you experienced with GTK and Rust ? :gnome: โค๏ธ :rust:

We are looking to contract someone to work on the new GNOME Password Manager ๐Ÿ”‘

We want it to become a core/default app and help secure millions of users.

You'll be working with the GNOME Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to building emancipatory technologies for everyone.

Please send resume / portfolio to stf@gnome.org

Boosts welcome :boost_love:

@sonny
I am working on a GTK/ password manager already ๐Ÿ˜Ž
But it is a client for / only.
You want to build a local one?

I generally like #rustlang but I think every project developer should be forced to use it on a Raspberry Pi with 4GB RAM... had to build Vaultwarden (https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden) on one, and man,,, after 15 minutes compilation is no longer running because the device went OOM and now is so hot the fan is louder that a datacenter server...

Just to be clear, I think this is a Rust problem, not a project problem.

@chfkch@ruhr.social avatar

@mo8it
There are several cases where cross compilation does not work or is at least a huge hassle. I don't know about vaultwarden though because i run it on x86.
If you want i can compile it on my ARM machine, but i wouldn't trust some internet random to provide for security binaries.

I contributed to GNOME Shell! It's just a one-liner, but still, it's a contribution!

I added touchpad gestures so you can now change workspaces not just with a 3-finger swipe, but also a 4-finger swipe (or any amount of fingers larger than that, if you're feeling really adventurous).

Hello folk. I have an issue: My colors are wrong in the gui version. I searched the web, but all results are for wrong terminal versions. But mine is fine. Any clues what to do? I do not even know where to start.

The guix community is nice. Just don't ask for non-free Firmware on the official channels and you are fine.

@louis Do you know if your instance is not federating anymore or if the local timeline is disabled? I can still see some members' posts in the global TL but i cannot see anything when i subscribe to the instance TL in fedilab. I am obv. not a member of emacs.ch though.

My biggest enemy today in is the fact, that i cannot implement/extend traits from another crate. So i wanted to use structs from the crate since i am piggy-backing on their logic, but since i need Debug on those, because i am writing a app, i am screwed. Or am i missing something?
I mean i could just use my own types based on the rbw ones, since they are not likely to change (the crate looks feature-complete), but meh, is there a better way?

Does anyone want to help me design a logo and/or icon for ?
If i draw it myself, i'd rather have no icon haha.
It is a password manager frontend for (and desktops aswell).
Boosts welcome. :boostRequest:

If there is a hashtag for such things, let me know aswell.

goldboot | Immutable infrastructure for the desktop! - by fossable

https://github.com/fossable/goldboot

"In the approach, you choose a starting template containing an absolutely minimal install of your favorite OS. Then you create provisioners which are the scripts that add all of your customizations on top of the template. From these pieces, goldboot builds a machine image ready to be deployed to real hardware."

I wonder why is such a shit show if you want to have some deeper customization. I want to add a share for my server, which runs , but i cannot really get the permissions right. On the server, i can just set the correct uids in my config, on synology, that is almost impossible.

Making progress with . Slow, but steady.
Today i implemented a password input to unlock the / vault, so we can soon remove a part of the credentials.toml (which was just a workaround for faster testing) and make the app safer.
feels nicer the more i get to work with it.

Sadly my ARM CI did not work as nicely as the x86, so i can't package for my phone easily.

chfkch, to Synology
@chfkch@ruhr.social avatar

Since i am slowly migrating away from my setup towards bare metal setup and i do not want to let the syno go to waste, i decided to use it as a backup server with automounts for backup folders. Let's see how that goes.

I liked the syno at first, but since i cannot really configure it besides that what the DSM webgui provides, it is hard to get a nice setup going. Also the outdated kernel and some other stuff like not being able to install what i want sucks.

chfkch, to bitwarden
@chfkch@ruhr.social avatar

Since i am not celebrating this day for some reasons, i have time to code while my family is asleep. The last hour, i implemented the wrapper functions, for setting up/logging in/unlocking accounts and saving state to the db for the client.
We are getting somewhere.
Some GUI stuff and decryption is still on the list before you can check out the code.

What is the way to go to produce visual mockups for apps, preferably these days?
I don't want to prototype, just get "drawings".

Hello bubble.
I am searching for a tablet which preferrably runs mainline so or are supported.
Must have:

  • a sort of display via cable (USB-C, DP, HDMI)
  • bluetooth for mouse and keyboard
  • WiFi

Do any of you know of such a device? I guess is not it?

now has support to open links from the detail page (or copy them). Also, Custom fields are shown on the detail page.
To smooth the overall experience, i got a basic search filter working, so you don't have to scroll to your desired entry.

Check out the latest main at https://codeberg.org/Chfkch/bitritter .
If you try it out on your device and the list/detail-ratio is off, please open an issue (preferrably with screenshot attached) so i fix it.

News from :
https://codeberg.org/Chfkch/bitritter
Account creation is now possible via the app, no need to store credentials on disk.
This was a huge step towards the release of the first beta.
Basic usage is covered in my eyes, now i have to polish things up a bit and test integration in distros and on devices.
Got a lot of help from the community and the channel.
If you want to try now, hit me up if you have problems.

My first (very incomplete and WIP) iteration of my client. It ia usually not ready for others to use, but i need to publish it to stay motivated.
Works with aswell. You have to build it fron source though, for the time being.
