I perform some software testing at the company for which I work.

Two weeks ago I found our software pleasant enough to use.

Today I upgraded via Test Flight, and it was a complete downgrade.

A dev implemented a “secret tap” to switch access to some static API URLs, and it’s just thrown everything off. Because I have no feedback of which “mode” I’m in and if I’m in the wrong “mode” it will make everything unusable.

Seriously heard someone saying they don't listen to many black artists, because they aren't really into rap. Bitch please, feel free to share songs from Black artists from any genre. Here is one of my favorites, if you like this song please check out her other work:

Where do you live and how do you feel about it?

Obviously, don't tell me exactly where you live, no actual addresses please! You can be as vague as you like.

I live in Central Missouri in the U.S.

Pros:

This is an absolutely beautiful place, green rolling hills, lots of rivers, lakes, ponds, and natural springs, cool caves to explore.

Lots of farming here, so great access to quality fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy.

It's relatively inexpensive to live here compared with other states, because it's a "flyover".

I'm close enough to three major cities, that it's an easy day trip, and I'm about halfway to anywhere in the U.S.

We have one of the best Conservation departments in the U.S. and this is one of the few things that is a bipartisan issue. Lots of awesome nature programs that are free or cheap, state parks, conservation areas, bird watching, hunting, boating, foraging available to everyone.

Cons:

Yeah, it's a big one, it is a RED STATE, while a lot of the cities are blue, there is a large rural population, that votes red. Abortion is not legal here. People often vote against their own self interest.

While I'm not against responsible gun ownership, lots of people aren't responsible, and people have access to guns that definitely should not.

We have very few employee protections here, while the cost of living is relatively low compared with other places, it's taken years to get to a $12 minimum wage, and it's still not enough.

Anyone ever see the 80s film “Night of the Comet?”

That’s what this G4 geomagnetic storm is going to do to Canada.

What kind of high-school experience did you have? Were you in a clique? Were you popular, unpopular, the coolest kid in your Homeschool? Did you have a sweet jean jacket with patches, or maybe a leather vest? Were you an evil villain or a Mary Sue?

@RickiTarr At the time, my HS ran from grades 10-12. My class size was ~800. By then, people pretty much left each other alone. I was probably considered a geek or a nerd, definitely an underachiever. Ppl were either cordial or ignored me. I was fine with that.

The only bully type behavior I experienced was on the last day of school, one of my classmates decided I was the guy at which to throw an egg. It missed me, but splattered all over the inside of my car on a hot Texas May afternoon.

After watching the Fallout TV series, I finally bit the bullet and played a Fallout video game for the first time.

Or rather, I played the game that the Fallout series is based upon: Wasteland.

So what exactly is Wasteland? It’s a turn-based RPG that takes place in, you guessed it, a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

If you didn’t know, Fallout was created as the spiritual successor after the developer, Interplay, had a disagreement with EA – who owned the rights to Wasteland.

Wasteland was a DOS game that came out in 1988. Yes, I know that it came out a year prior for C64 and Apple ][, but the version I’m playing is the DOS game – albeit, a remastered version that adds music and voice acting. The graphics, however, have mostly remained the same in all their EGA glory.

And I got to tell you, Wasteland is good! It’s not as visually impressive as Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest for the NES, but the story-telling and world-building is top notch. It does not take place within the same universe as Fallout, but it’s very similar. This is a world that’s fun to explore.

Eventually, Wasteland got sequels. Wasteland 2 came out in 2014, and Wasteland 3 was released in 2020 – both published by inXile Entertainment, which acquired the rights from EA. Interestingly, just like the Fallout franchise, Wasteland is now owned by Microsoft.

Could we eventually see a Fallout crossover with Wasteland? Only time will tell, but it could plausibly happen.

As someone who played SxSW multiple times and mostly enjoyed it, I would like to say bands should drop out of SxSW because it is in Texas and Greg Abbott is the governor and his party literally voted to greenlight alliances with Texas neo-Nazis because they, his party, are fucking neo-Nazis.

This is probably my worst poll, but I'm curious, for science:

I have/had:

@RickiTarr I thought I had great parents until my father died, my mother started cleaning house, and all the skeletons she had been protecting me from as a child came out of the closet as an adult.

While I have sympathy for my mother, I concluded all of that had nothing to do with me and I kinda just moved on, went to therapy, stopped drinking, “finished” therapy, and am trying to do even better still.

Alright my fellow computer nerds. I have not purchased a computer in five years, and it’s been even longer since I built one.

I’ve decided I need a Windows box to play many of the games I would like. What are the current considerations for processor, memory, graphics, and storage I should be considering?

Should I just use the Baldur’s Gate 3 recommended specs, cry, and save my clams?

Here we go again! My local energy company here in South-Central Texas is gamifying energy consumption on what is expected to be a very hot day (103°F/39°C).
