@Bassman1805@MicroWave New York law $1K per instance. I would guess this is a warning shot and if #djt keeps violating the gag order, we'll see #incarceration. #Merchan is being very careful and not giving any wiggle room for an appeal.
Prosecutors in Trump’s #criminal trial say he has violated a #GagOrder barring him from attacking #witnesses, #jurors & others close to the case. Testimony is set to resume later Tuesday morning.
@timo21@Nonilex I was thinking about journalistic credibility and what the fallout from the #trumptrial will bring. The person pointing fingers and screaming #FakeNews certainly had a hand in making it a reality.
@timo21@Nonilex It’s definitely a rabbit hole. I was a journalism major but knew that I would never pursue a career in it. Its function is to generate money by selling ads not to tell the whole story. Due to space limitations, reports were subject to bias through selecting the “most” important facts which could completely slant articles. Everyone should learn how to decipher “news”.
#Netanyahu is no better than #Putin and both are pushing agendas that stoke the #GOP and anti-Biden rhetoric. #Bibi, like #DJT, is trying to evade responsibility and the likelihood of prosecution. He won't work with the US.
Cornel West predicts Biden will drop out as LBJ did in 1968. Hopefully he will drop out but a key difference is that in 1968 LBJ was embarrassed in the New Hampshire primary. Democrats changed the primary rules to keep that from happening to Biden. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/12/15/cornel-west-biden-election-00131944
@rchusid@jeremy_list I think there needs to be a discussion about the sheer number of excellent people #Biden has put in as advisors. Yes, a younger candidate would be appealing but Biden's #experience and #understanding is undervalued. Who he knows is just as important. I'd love to have an ad of all the things his appointees have accomplished in comparison to Trump's.
"[We] call on the UN, political leaders & health professionals to recognise that #ClimateChange & #biodiversity loss are one indivisible crisis & must be tackled together to preserve health & avoid catastrophe. This overall environmental crisis is now so severe as to be a global health emergency."
@Teri_Kanefield Given the death threats against those who voted against #JimJordan for speaker, I hope the courts find a way to protect #Powell and all the others who have decided to cooperate.
With their House majority Republicans are unable to show up to work, unable to elect a speaker of the house, unable to have the house in session. Total failure.
Steve Scalise won his party’s nomination for Speaker. Yet the flamethrowers on the right shot down his chances. Now Jim Jordan is running against no one, and yet he’ll never win over his party. The GOP is the party of dysfunction and chaos. They can’t govern themselves, and they should never govern the rest of us.
@georgetakei The current state of the GOP proves #cheatersneverwin. They've gerrymandered districts to win seats/power,; yet they can't make anyone happy, can't compromise, can't do any work without looking over their shoulders. I only wish they could all be fired.
@realTuckFrumper If Aileen #Cannon can't do the job expeditiously, she should be removed. She's either A. doing it intentionally to delay the case until the primaries or B. Not smart enough for the job
@dancinyogi trick question. First meal of the day for me is about 5 hours after I wake up, so yes I do have a breakfast...just not when most people think I should eat it.
Here’s what went down: we just won a clean 45 day gov extension, stripped GOP’s earlier 30% cuts to Social Security admin etc, staved off last minute anti-immigrant hijinks, and averted shutdown (for now).
People will get paychecks and MTG threw a tantrum on the way out. Win-win
I’ve had a #remarkable2 e-ink tablet for a week (second-hand from the good @nicosomb who sold it to me)
I use it all day long, every day, as a companion to my computer. It’s much better than filling up paper books which make it hard to retrieve previous notes in a timely manner or at all.
I can share my notes (converted to typed text or not), re-use parts of them elsewhere, copy & paste, scale, rotate, I can type, or draw.
It lacks straight lines and shapes though! But it fosters creativity.
@koalie@nicosomb I love my remarkable - I have so many different notebooks and love being able to download files f- agendas & minutes for meetings, PDFs for class...also many folders, so many topics, I don't have to cart around a stack of paper. It's better than I ever thought it could be and I know I haven't fully tapped into its capabilities.
@realTuckFrumper Not that I believe any polls but I hope this type of reporting sends the #GOP into a talespin. IMO #Trump only leads because he can rake in #money#voteblue
@dancinyogi Trusting #polls is having faith in people actually telling the #truth or what they perceive to be the truth at that particular point in time. But people love numbers and journalism outlets make a lot of #money on those eyeballs.
Isn’t this exciting? The United Nations has announced it will hold a climate summit later this year, gathering all the nations of the world to have discussions and make plans for taking on the fight against global warming!!
Except — they’ve done this before, 27 times before in fact, every single year since 1995. And nothing has changed.
But maybe this time it will be different. Because COP28 is being held in Dubai, and the president of this year’s conference is Sultan al-Jaber, chief executive of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), one of the world’s largest oil and gas firms.
So, do you think his company will take the lead and show the way to a carbon-free future?
No, I guess not…
UAE oil giant ADNOC — run by the president of the COP28 climate conference — is expected to spend more than $1 billion every month this decade on fossil fuels, according to new analysis by international NGO Global Witness.
This is nearly seven times higher than its commitment to decarbonization projects over the same timeframe, the research says. It comes ahead of the COP28 climate summit, with Dubai set to host the U.N.’s annual conference from Nov. 30 through to Dec. 12.
Global Witness’ analysis found that ADNOC is planning to spend an average of $1.14 billion a month on oil and gas production alone between now and 2030 — the same year in which the U.N. says the world must cut emissions by 45% to avoid global catastrophe.
It means that ADNOC is forecast to spend nearly seven times more on fossil fuels through to 2030 than it does on “low-carbon solution” projects.
By 2050, the year in which the U.N. says the entire world economy must achieve net-zero emissions, ADNOC is projected to have invested $387 billion in oil and gas. The burning of fossil fuels is the chief driver of the climate emergency.
@breadandcircuses how can a climate summit be taken seriously when they're all taking private jets, and stressing the ecosystem they converge upon. Actions speak louder than words. #climatechange#cop28
#Trump may be the frontrunner solely due to the media's obsession with reporting every single thing he says or does. Name recognition is KEY to getting votes - most people don't pay attention to the context. How many times was he referred to in relation to Hillary (instead of Clinton) We need to talk more about #Biden. A LOT MORE.
