@flexghost Europeans have for decades deluded themselves into thinking they could sweep systemic inequalities under the rug all the while saying to themselves "at least we're not the US"... They handed Putin the leverage with which to break Europe.
Pro-democratic parties the world over are going to need to start coordinating against fascism/authoritarianism on every continent. As it stands we're sleep walking into WW3.
@GottaLaff I'm not entirely sure why we're all surprised at this. It's a zillion degrees in Vegas right now, and Trump's polling has taken a serious hit following his felony convictions.
Donald #Trump is in breach of a British High Court order to pay £300,000 in legal costs to Christopher Steele, the former MI6 agent who compiled the Steele document.
The Right deliberately set out to sully the word “liberal” and succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. But the Left killed the word progressive all by itself by letting every random group, no matter how extreme, uncooperative, or just fucking nasty, to use it for their own ends.
@TonyStark Sitting this election out puts the lives of tens of millions of Americans in serious danger. Women, LGBTQ people, BIPOC people, Muslims, Jews, the disabled, elderly, sick people… If Trump wins then I guarantee that Conservatives will start passing laws to criminalize the LGBTQ community for existing, and that’s just the first step. People will fucking die if you don’t get out and vote for Biden.
💯. I keep arguing that the American “opposition” (it’s not a “Left”) is utterly inert. Embarrassingly so. But there are signs of hope. At least people have stopped saying “we’re better than this.” Baby steps.
if you can't be in a coalition with people you disagree with on at least a few things, you can't build a coalition big enough to accomplish anything in the United States or defeat rising fascism.
@abm0@Magooish@TonyStark The switch to Socialism can only happen successfully if it stems from culture and not revolution. This is why education is so important to the Leftward march of Western civilization. If the population is equipped to make decisions based upon reason and not emotion, then on average they will choose to support kinder and more humane policies.
@ShaulaEvans@edutooters This is absolutely wild to me. AI like Copilot and ChatGPT are barely usable in their current state. Trying to use AI for academic purposes right now would be like using a calculator that regularly spits out answers such as 2 + 2 = potato.
Here’s an excellent article about important lawsuits just filed on behalf of Uvalde families who lost loved ones to a mass shooting there. The families, represented by the same attorney who represented the Sandy Hook families, are suing Daniel Defense, the maker of the AR-15 used by the shooter, as well as the publisher of Call of Duty video games and Meta. (I am quoted in the story.) https://wapo.st/3R1Y9LA#LawFedi#GunViolence
#MorganSpurlock has died and it seems like a good time to remind everyone that in 2008 he released a documentary called 'Where In The World is Osama Bin Laden?'
The reception to the film was negative. People didn't like that "the mcdonalds guy" was getting involved in political affairs, or that he was treating Osama like a subject for comedy. The reaction was overwhelmingly "stay in your lane".
Osama was found 3y later. The documentary pinpointed where he was hiding within less than 200km.
