@MarvelStudios will we see Kahhori again? I just leaned of her character in What If…? And loved her character so much.

“what would happen if the Tesseract fell to Earth & landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America … leading Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power.”

Woohoo! I just snagged tickets to the Yayoi Kusama exhibit at the SFMoma!

Super happy! I love her work!!!

@kristinHenry, We saw it, and it was amazing, but be prepared. It's also a very short exhibit. It takes less than 10 minutes to go through the exhibit because the docents only give you a few minutes per room to keep the line short.

I’ve been getting comments from my friends who have (I don’t have one and will probably wait a while before I get one) and I’m starting to think that neither “VR” nor ”AR” describes the experience of using the device.

I think the correct descriptor is “Mediated Reality”. What you see in passthrough isn’t the real world—it’s what the device thinks the real world should look like. The FaceTime personas are what the device thinks you should look like—including your weird synthesized hands.

jdavidnet,
@jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

@drahardja has been calling it for 8-10years.

is a cheat code for

It allows the simulated environment and physical reality to be synchronized and time offset.

Most MR is offset by 20-100ms, but the 12ms for Apple is impressive, but for it to disappear, we probably need 2-6ms.

Most gaming monitors are between 1-6ms now.

I think AVP is the engineering/ physics limitation of this style of tech.

What should print (or do) to show off these nozzles when they arrive?

I just ordered some @E3DOnline Diamond Nozzles for my @Prusa3D MK3S+.

What filament should I print?

<- 20% off

@fribbledom lol, unless that is an actual filament!

Some real RIM/Blackberry vibes from Intel here... https://www.theregister.com/2023/10/27/intel_q3_2023/

@geerlingguy if Arm could run most Steam games, I’m x86 out of here and switching to Arm or RISC-V only.

X86 is just to monolithic and complicated.

I am looking forward to intels version of Chiplets, and their photonic interconnects, on sexy glass substrates!

Twitter (X) is not an easy habit to break - especially if most of your audience / community is firmly rooted there and too stubborn to leave. I get it. I do. I won't pass judgement. I'm definitely no NPR (all things considered), but... https://niemanreports.org/articles/npr-twitter-musk/

jdavidnet,
@jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

@ChrisPirillo so may of the people I follow are on Twitter, but most of the accounts that like posts are some sort of phishing thirst trap bots. It’s worse than it’s ever been.

I almost wonder if they are fake engagement bots, to boost twitters numbers.

    Looks good! Now to try printing my own files… (also, I believe this is the first benchy I have ever printed.)

    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @rasterweb It looks good for a fast print, but there are definitely artifacts if you know what to look for.

    It seems insane how fast this thing can move!

    A Bamboo Lab P1S 3D printer printing very fast.

    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @rasterweb do you have one now? the multi-material on it seems really sexy to me. I really want to print cross-material supports. PETG-PLA, PLA-PETG, TPU-(), Nylon--(), PC-()

    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @rasterweb it's really the only reason to opt for the bamboo over the mk4, except for availability.

    the mk4 can print on any surface, which is a baller proposition.

    is also a mostly open hardware/ software company

    i modify my MK3S+ all the time.

    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @rasterweb the new A1 Mini is an unbeatable price for the AMU + machine. Again the multi-material is the real upgrade.

    If you can cut out time out of post-processing that's where the real-time savings are.

    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @rasterweb yeah 4 color multicolor prints is cute but not useful.

    for me it's all about the multi-material options.

    ideally it would be multi-tool head for less waste.

    I probably won't die because of the chip shortage... but I might.

    See, my CPAP has a failing motor, and since the CPAP is a machine that (supposedly) helps keep me alive by preventing me from dying in my sleep, it's sort of an important thing.

    My insurance company provided it to me so I can avoid the dying part. I've had it 12 years and it is now warning me it will fail in the future.

    So wait, what about the chip shortage?

    1/2

    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @rasterweb I have a CPAP I can’t use. It keeps me awake and makes me miserable, so instead I lost 50-60 lbs and maybe don’t need it any more.

    Would it be useful to you?

    Your Twitter/X account is a microphone connected to a mixer controlled by a fascist. You can speak all you want. The fascist controls your volume and can mute you whenever he wants. And you might not even know you’ve been muted because you can still hear yourself in your headphones.

    It’s not called resistance when your volume knob is in someone else’s hand.

    It always amazes me in how in discussions of the future of services that moderation is generally an afterthought.

    Okay, we add nomadic identity, how does that impact the ability for servers to moderate, given all moderation tooling is built on user + server identity?

    Okay, we add the ability to put people on lists without following, how does that impact moderation and privacy?

    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @thisismissem but neither of those are provided a validated identity, which is exactly my point.

    If I wanted to prove who I was, there has to be a validation chain, & a technical means of doing that.

    So the two at scale solutions are SSL or Blockchain, & I think SSL is operating at a larger scale, has a proven track record in this specific problem, and it scales fiscally relative to how much of an identity stake you need.

    • some identities already have high quality SSL Certs
    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @thisismissem I’m waiting for you to mention a better idea that can be benchmarked against some other tech at scale.

    I see no reason that someone couldn’t use “let’s encrypt”. But if they want to claim they are an identity at NYT, IMDB, GitHub, etc… I sure as hell hope they are not using some random domain on a “let’s encrypt” SSL cert.

    But if someone on wants to claim an identity on their blog, hobbyist site, let’s encrypt seems great!

    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @thisismissem I’ll try to describe it differently.

    If you are trying to prove you are identity x that made project y on GitHub then there is no better way than to host a REL on GitHub.

    If you are trying to prove you are identity m on blog n, then let’s encrypt on blog n is fine, but if you are trying to prove you are identity m(x) on blog n, then let’s encrypt isn’t going to cut it.

    It might just be impossible to describe this in short form, might require a medium post, etc

    jdavidnet,
    @jdavidnet@me.dm avatar

    @thisismissem I’m not saying all I’m saying this is a scalar trust mechanism.

    I also think people and services don’t do much with REL because it’s not useful yet. If we make it useful then people will put the effort in to REL links.

    Also it’s super lame you get 4 REL links. You should be able to have as many as you want!
