@fedidb Since July 2023 #FediDB has shown the number of user accounts and servers growing, but a falling number of monthly active users. Are you sure about the MAU number?
For sure many people jumped in after the purchase of Twitter and then left, but it's strange that the trends are in opposite directions, and it feels to me like the #Fediverse has become more active in recent months.
Where did the 39+ million users come from, as reported by @fedidb? This does not match the numbers reported for Popular Severs and Popular Software either.
Something different - if you run an older version of #Mastodon, please upgrade asap. There is a security problem which could allow others to take over accounts.
One of the things I don't like is that services like #FediDB actually collect version information so you can just ask the service "give me all the vulnerable servers." The .well-known/ link tells you the version.
I just saw, that fedidb now has data for the biggest fediverse accounts, so I did a little plotting with it.
Here is a graphic of the scattering of the 100 biggest accounts by the instance they are on.
Does anyone know why the other category is so big now on fedidb?
Mastodon used to take up 75% and it is now at 63% because the other category has grown to 17% all of a sudden. Is this from flipboard or wordpress? I'm just curious.
https://fedidb.org should load faster on most pages, especially the Servers page (btw, you can use you keyboard arrow left + right buttons to quickly navigate between pages)
I'll be shipping a few new #fediDB features before the new year, once I get a few pixelfed presents wrapped 😁
