I’m in the deep red mountains of north Georgia right now, specifically in Andrew “not an insurrection, just normal tourists” Clyde’s district. There’s this one particular antique market that has this one particular booth, that’s nothing but racist and confederate (redundant…) shit. There’s always something deplorable there, and today is no different.

I call it the Shrine to Treason.

In the current season of Star Trek: Discovery, there have been two lines of dialogue that have made me want to throw something at the TV, both of which involved the same word, "solve", used as a noun, and both uttered by Captain Burnham.

"Do we have a solve for this?"

"OK, so what's the solve?"

What sort of fresh hell is this? What's wrong with the perfectly cromulent word "solution"? The writer(s) responsible for this abomination should be sacked.

Envy me! I just put down a deposit on this incredible trip through the west of Ireland next March. It’s a musical tour led by a great Irish tenor banjo player called Enda Scahill. It’s a week of going to landmarks, playing in pubs, getting banjo instruction, and soaking up the Irish culture. I followed along online with the first of these trips he did a few weeks ago, and just had to do it myself.

Every time I eat microwave popcorn, which isn’t very often, I’m left wishing I hadn’t. There’s always a chemical aftertaste, and weird feeling in my mouth. Lately, I’ve been popping corn on the stove in coconut oil, which is delicious, but tonight it was late and I was too lazy.

I knew absolutely nothing about Ahsoka Tano, going into the Ahsoka show, but holy shit, this has become one of my favorite SW things. I love how zen she is about everything, and so much of this show really felt like a great homage to classic samurai movies. And good lord, but Ray Stevenson owned every scene he was in. RIP, Baylan/Titus Pullo.

Please, Disney, keep making more of this!

Given that scary list of data that Threads is going to take from you and sell to anyone who wants to see them, how do they actually obtain the data? On an iPhone, when a program wants access to other data, it has to pop up a system prompt asking for it, or it has to give you instructions for enabling it. I haven't seen any mention of this, so far.

(And no, I'm not saying Threads is good; I'm just curious how it gets to the sensitive info.)
