Learned a new Chinese insult today

脏黄瓜
"zāng huáng guā"
Or "dirty cucumber 🥒"

Basically refers to a manwhore 🤣

Follow me on and you will learn the best insults in several languages. This is 文化 (wénhuà, culture ) after all 😆

kateiacy,

@liztai Ooh, I followed you just in time or I would have missed this useful information! (I've been studying Mandarin for about a year.)

"The Biden administration has provided funding to build resilient communities, and a new (as of September 2023) National Climate Resilience Framework, which should provide the US with a whole range of protections. These include conserving water resources, modernizing and strengthening the electric grid against weather and disasters and building infrastructure to protect communities and ecosystems from sea level rise, tidal flooding, hurricanes and storm surges. After a long morning of loading the POD, stuffing the car, cleaning, scrubbing, double-checking, all on very little sleep… we’re off! here we come.

loves these long road trips.

First night: Sacramento-ish.

kateiacy,

@GottaLaff What you've worked for for so long is finally happening! Safe travels, and all good wishes in your new home and country!

I am grateful for our comfortable basement and for the good weather warnings these days. I can't believe that some new houses are being built here without basements. I read yesterday that Iowa has already had 83 tornadoes this spring, and it isn't even tornado season yet. Insurance companies are pulling out of Iowa because storm damage losses are so great. #ClimateChange

"The problem with any judge, let alone a Justice of the Supreme Court, flying a Christian Nationalist flag is simple. It indicates to the public that the Justice believes the word of God is supreme to the text of our Constitution and our laws—which is manifestly not the way our system works. Separation of church and state is still a thing, but Alito has now publicly indicated he doesn’t believe it to be one." (1/3)
https://statuskuo.substack.com/p/red-flag-warning

kateiacy,

'As Alex Aronson, former staffer to Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), sagely observed, “These two Alito flags together are the story of the end of our country. One a totem against democracy itself, the other a vision for our theocratic future. The symbolism is haunting.”' (2/3)

kateiacy,

"We the voters have that power [to punish Alito], and we must not concede it. We can elect a House majority that will impeach him, at the very least, and a Congress that can pass Court reform if we make it an important enough issue.

The November election is about more than keeping Trump from regaining office. It is about keeping our very Republic. " (3/3)

Good morning, Mastodon friends! It's been a busy morning. I dropped my husband off at the hospital for his last oxygen therapy appointment, came home and got each dog out for a very short walk before the rain started up again, then headed back to the hospital for my own doctor appointment. After an assistant had checked me in and taken my blood pressure, I waited for 45 minutes for my doctor to come in.

Ended up going to Florida and back for a graduation (with a brief stop at Epcot since we were there).

Epcot when we were kids: A taste of culture! Innovation! Live street performers! Music! Food! THE FUTURE!

Epcot today: Day Drinker's Paradise (with Official "Drinking Around The World" T-Shirts).

🤔

kateiacy,

@ai6yr I hope your precautions were sufficient. This certainly is the best time since the start of the pandemic to travel. My sister and BIL are about to take a 7-day cruise, and I am very worried. She is medically vulnerable, and they aren't nearly as careful as they should be.

Right, I’m going to try to sleep. I am ready for this day to end. Thanks again for all the birthday wishes. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day

kateiacy,

@purplepadma Rest well, Charlotte! I guess it's already the middle of the night where you are, so I hope you're already resting well!

I am having fun! After doing physical therapy exercises for my hand for 10 months, my right hand is now facile enough that I can enjoy paracord crafts again. I am making a pair of larger tick-repellent adjustable ankle bracelets for my husband. Here's one. These are large enough that I can use a monkey's fist instead of a diamond knot in the middle for the drop of essential oil. The monkey fist came out as well as any I made before I broke my arm last spring. :) 1/2

kateiacy,

I think that, if cinched around the bottom of one's pant legs, these might work well to keep ticks from going up one's pants or into one's socks.

Good morning, Mastodon friends! I got the dog walking in early today to beat the incoming storms. Now I need to do my exercises and my usual early morning chores. I'm wishing everyone a good and safe day!

It's been over a month since Rep McGovern started his discharge petition to bypass Mike Johnson in the US Congress and get the support package for Ukraine rolling again. In the meantime, the House has mostly just vacationed, while russia bombards Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure. The petiton is up to 195 of the 218 names needed for majority.

It's not just Johnson. Most of the representatives don't care.

Good morning, Mastodon friends! It's sunny and windy here, too. Joule and I did not succeed in making a good rally video on Wed. (she was way too distracted by what the neighbors were doing outside). Yesterday was too windy (the signs would have blown away), and it looks as if today will be even more so. Oh well -- there's no deadline. I'm looking forward to a quiet day with no appointments or errands. Have a good one, everyone!

As per usual, we are the only people with masks on in the ONCOLOGY office.🙄

kateiacy,

@StillIRise1963 My husband was hospitalized last weekend in the oncology ward (just because that was where a bed opened). No nurses or other staff were masked. My husband wore his mask as much as was possible, but couldn't keep it on 24 hrs/da.

kateiacy,

@StillIRise1963 Thank you! Yes, he's ok now and there's a plan for preventing future episodes.

Good news for our circle of morning coffee drinkers:

'Still, he [Dr Peter Hayes, professor of hepatology at the University of Edinburgh] knows of no evidence that cutting out coffee is beneficial. “Coffee is one of nature’s gifts,” he says.'
